Not sure if this should go here or under "Shotguns".
Anyway, I have a Mossy 500 with the standard mag tube, I would like to swap it out with the extended mag tube.
I have tried to remove it with wrapping it in duct tape, at the far end where the barrel attaches, and using a strap wrench and cannot get it off. I did not crank on it too hard since I want to re-use the tube. I didn't want to damage it.

Any suggestions?

They use lok-tite on the threads so apply heat and try again. A commercial grade
heat gun or just lay across an electric hotplate.

The Mossbergs mag tube can be a real beesh, be carefull when you put it together the fine thread is ez to cross thread, not fun when that happens.

I will definitely keep that in mind, I am still trying to get to the point of putting the new extended mag tube on. Maybe I just need to set it outside and the sun should heat it up without the use of a heat gun!! ;)

I will need to try again with the heat gun. I just don't want to mess the finish up.

Try using a leather belt or even rubber inner-tube instead of tape- the tape will compress and can leave jaw marks.

True but be careful as channel locks and vice grips can leave marks thru the rubber. The leather is a better protection and it grips pretty good. You can also use rosin, chalk or even the rubber inner tube to enhance the leather's grip. Tongues out of old leather shoes also work and are a little thinner.

I agree, I was still planning on using a strap wrench with the inner tube. Channel locks, vice grip or something along that line is something I am trying to stay away from. Old leather shoe tongues is a good idea, I was looking at my belts to see if any of the leather ones were ready to go out to pasture.
