Different situation but, I had a neighbor when I lived in an apartment complex that fired a round of .40SW through his front door and into the passenger side door of my Toyota Echo. It did penetrate the metal but not the door panel. These were cheaply built apartments but they did have tough as hell doors.

There was a famous gun video in the 80's where they tested shooting various calibers through cars to see what would occur. These were 70's used cars, so they had heavier construction that today. But what they discovered was that the interior construction of a car door was not consistent. You might hit the door in a spot where there was just two panels of sheet metal to penetrate, and even a .380 would punch through that. But impact in the same door just an inch or two to the left or right or up or down, and the bullet might hit a reinforcing cross-member or the window mechanism, and stop even a .45 or magnum. Whether a common handgun round would penetrate was a roll of the dice.

I'm sure that to some degree that is still possible, although I think some of these current car doors are less substantial than a 1975 Chevy Impala.

Yea!! all you have to do is scrunch down in the seat below the window and you can drive through a barrage of bullets delivered by 30 cartel bad guys firing full auto .. I seen it too damnit!! :mrgreen:

The radiator never gets a hole either .. amazing! next time the guy should try the radiator .. prediction .. no penetration
