This is the one I bought. Pretty slick. 1/2” angled on a 2x4.

I just can’t imagine that 30 yds or so would be the end of the world.

That's fine. If you want to go real close just attach something rubber conveyor belt to the front. It will catch frag.

warning to all who shoot steel, whether a steel stand or wood stand, wear leather gloves or some thick units, can't tell you how many times i was too slow to remember them and on the edge of targets which is the soft edge, a round will leave a sharp divit, and it will slice your hand, finger ecdt. the 2x4 post will get shredded eventually, so have a spare, when it does, but don't leave it in the desert
have fun, shoot safe, and stay safe.

Unless I’m dialing in sights or trying to see where a load is printing, I almost exclusively shoot steel. Mostly Mr Target with a couple older Action Target plates.

If you shoot 5.56 pressure m193 or m855 At shorter range, you will damage the steel with dents/divots. Personally, I just consider it wear and tear and don’t consider my targets to be a lifetime investment. I do plan to buy some 1/2” Mr Target plates to see how they stand up to close range training.

The only “dumb” thing I’ve done at close range is took some shots at the pistol dueling tree with a carbine. (Hey, I was in the zone, transitioning between targets.) I ended up picking some copper jacket out of my arm that day. Actually I think I didn’t realize there was shrapnel in there until the next day when it wasn’t healing.

Yep, my brother & I were plinking away at my spinning targets from about 30 paces one day when my brother lets off a .40 round... I was standing in back of him to the right when I felt something sting my forearm... I looked down, saw a lil blood & picked a small bit of the .40's jacket out of my arm...
