Just a heads up for you all. Wife gets text this morning she thought was from our bank, had the official looking bank logo, individual claimed to be with the bank and informed her there was fraudulent charges on our Zelle account. We have no Zelle account! Texted her I had opened the account, they needed more information from her so they could clear up the charges on our behalf.
Then they sent her a text asking her to answer yes or no to proceed and they would send a confirmation number.
She contacted the bank canceled our cards and canceled our checking account number. What a pain in the ass.🥸

Zelle is an app, not an account. For someone to send you money via Zelle they would need your account info. That's what they were fishing for. Hell, someone can send you an "invoice" with Zelle. You have to authorize the payment.

Just saying there is no need to panic.

I send/receive money with Zelle a few times a week. It's very convent when say, you go out for lunch with the work crew and for get your wallet. You can pay you buddy back before you get food.

This. No different than getting a scam email asking for your banking info so a Nigerian prince can deposit his inheritance into your account.

Zelle is a payment transfer service from bank account to bank account like a wire transfer. If your bank account doesn’t show any transactions then there is nothing to worry about. Nobody can send money out of your account without your banking login creds. They can only send you a payment request that you can ignore/delete.

Did you really read it?

one way to protect yourself is by never responding to a request for your bank information.

Kinda figured that was commons sense these days.

She fell prey to the fact the headers all had the bank logo, then another guy chimed in claiming he was from the bank fraud division. They phuked up when they threw the Zelle account BS at her.
Just glad she didn’t take the bait, definitely a refresher event for the both of us.

One thing to remember is that if you don’t register your bank account with zelle, there isn’t a way for any zelle transaction to occur.
