A guy wants to trade a ruger no 1 in 7mm mag for something I’m selling. It looks pretty basic with no iron sights and matte blue finish. The wood looks nice but it too has a matte finish. I’m just trying to get an idea of its value. I checked gunbroker and it looks like they range from $1k up to around $5k. Is there an easy way to tell what it’s worth?

Thanks

No replies!?!? I figured someone here would have an idea. It turns out I did the trade anyway and now I just want to know if it was a good deal or if I got screwed.

I would help you if I could, but I don't know much about them. Can you post some photos and additional details? That might give others something to go on.

Just out of curiosity, what's the trade that you did?

In my experience almost any Ruger #1 is worth at least a thousand these days. They don’t make very many anymore and your caliber is very popular. If you have around that amount in the gun you didn’t get hurt.

I've owned 2 of them (45/70 and 458 Winchester) and had a time getting $800 for them.No matter what I did including supporting the frond I couldn't get decent groups, The've always been noted for vertical string shots.

I have a Ruger #3 in 45/70 and a #1 in 458 Lott. I enjoy them for caliber that I want to shoot but have no need or desire to have a semi auto our a bolt gun. Take it out and have a leisurely day at the range.

If the caliber interests you then about 1k is going rate for common calibers. In more obscure calibers (like african hunting rounds) tend to add 200 to 500 to the price.

I have not had an accuracy issue with either of mine. My Lott with do about an inch at 100 yards with 300 gr cast lead and hand loaded. That is off a rest.

They are great guns and very accurate. If you want to see what the going price it, check the completed auctions on GB.

I guess the 2 N).1's I owned which were bought in the 80's have had their stock bedding problems cured. Might give another N).1 in 45/70 another try. I really like that caliber in a NO.1.

I've always believed the No 1/No 3 platform would be ideal for a single shot multicaliber rifle. You could probably use the Savage barrel nut system to do it.

Around a grand for that model, sounds like the standard model. 1B I believe. Maybe 1A. Anyways, 900-1000 if it’s well cared for and not beat up.

The only thing that puts me off is the 'matte' finish in your description. Absent any special distributor runs that I would be clueless of, I've always understood that model to be satin-blued. Beautiful, unique rifles, for sure.
