So now the question is how quickly Trump can get a replacement appointed and confirmed.
Personally, I think he should be respectful and wait 24 hours before announcing his appointment. But if he does it in the next five minutes, I will forgive him.

Get both plugs and muffs ready for the liberal outrage and Trump hatred.

Agreed. Better hope the polls are wrong and the Dems don't take the WH and Senate or the next appointee is going to be a complete disaster for decades to come.

My bet is Trump starts the fight now, just to distract the dems. Man is this going to be entertaining. That old shrew refused to retire for political reasons, so her death should be handled the same way.

Completely agree. Side note, since 1975, the average time from nomination to senate vote is 67 days.
 
I just can't wait to see all the Dims lose their f**king minds. Reminder, Trump and the current Senate are in place until January no matter what happens Nov 3rd. There should be plenty of time to get a new Justice in there.
 
Prior to TV and the internet. Justices were confirmed in under a week.

There is no constitutional requirement to drag it out, it's just done so senators can posture before the cameras.

And even if he loses, Trump is still president until January 20, and the Senate can confirm until the new Senate is sworn in on the 3rd of January.

Smart move is to name a nominee by the end of next week.
 
I'm not exactly celebrating...well I am, but...

Either they try and ram though a new justice before the election and it becomes the most contested and vicious confirmation in history, or they wait till after the election and this has significant repercussions in terms of voter turnout. What a mess, you can expect riots. I was really hoping the old B!t%H was going to live till next year.

At least she can vote by mail now.
 
McConnell could get it rammed through before the election. Dems would scream bloody murder, but as William Shakespeare said, "F___ 'em."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell mourned the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday. The GOP leader also vowed to give President Trump's Supreme Court nominee a vote in the U.S. Senate.

"Americans reelected our majority in 2016 and expanded it in 2018 because we pledged to work with President Trump and support his agenda, particularly his outstanding appointments to the federal judiciary," McConnell wrote in a statement. "Once again, we will keep our promise."

"President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate," the Senate majority leader vowed.

After hearing the news himself, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer rushed out and demanded that President Trump hold off until after the election before nominating Ginsburg's replacement.

"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president."

The party out of power always wants the party in power not to do anything in the hopes of retaking control after the election. But voters gave the GOP a decisive majority in the Senate and control over the White House.

Within an hour of the news, CSPAN tweeted a video of a much younger Joe Biden asking then-President George Bush in 1992 not to name a nominee to the Supreme Court until after the election. But at the time, Republicans only controlled the White House and Democrats controlled the Senate.
