Hi,

I lost my rental due to Covid back in June. I have an RV and decided to spend summer on the road.

I put in a change of address to my PO Box and transferred banking to a good friends address.

My DL has my friends address on it.

I've become accustomed to the RV lifestyle and plan to stay on the road for a while longer. I'll be back in Tucson and stay in a series of RV parks and camp out....

So I'm concerned about a firearm purchase. I'm concerned as I didn't put a USPS change of address to the physical address but my PO Box.

Should my DL address be perfectly fine?

Thanks!

A lot of folks do this these days. (The nomad existence, I mean.) I've been making the trip out to Quartzite for a few years now during the high season, hanging out with nomads, looking into doing it myself. So many folks who have no real permanent address and live in several states throughout the year have drivers licenses with addresses that in no way accurately reflect their "residence". But because the DL is treated in this country as golden "proof" of one's status,...once presented somewhere for whatever purpose, almost no one ever questions what is on it.

I know for a fact that the few FFLs in Quartzite who set up shop seasonally there and who are fully aware that many RVers who present their DLs do not actually reside where their DL states that they do, don't even bat an eye. Whatever your DL says is fine with them, as long as it appears to be genuine state-issued. Even though 90% or more of their purchasers are probably from out of state but simply use Arizona as their "road base".

Thanks!

I figured as much but since I'm pretty much nomadic as you say a slight concern...

Especially since I dropped $2000 on an AR over the phone at a local to home gun shop! I had been shopping for a DDM4 V7 P for weeks and found one all the way back home! In NM now avoiding the last of the summer heat and will pick up later this week when I swing through Tucson.

Are you registered to vote in Arizona? That would be further proof of residency if the question ever comes up. I don’t think there is a requirement that you spend a minimum amount of time in the place you legally establish as your home.

I congratulate you on your new lifestyle. One of my nephews just sold his house and purchased a 40’ fifth wheel and a F450 to tow it with. He has 6 kids and he and his wife are planning to stay on the road for a couple of years. They plan to come visit us at least twice each year. They are keeping their minivan and some of the kids will drive with his wife and some with him. He works remotely and has to travel to Phoenix twice a year. She is a stay at home mom.

He is expecting something big to happen in this country in the next couple of years. And he doesn’t want to be tied to a house when it does. He wants to be able to drive away from the danger if it does. BTW, he feels the US economy will collapse and there is the possibility of a (Civil) war between the states. In the case that neither thing happens in the next two years they will use the money they are saving from not paying a mortgage every year to buy some acreage in a remote part of Wyoming and build their homestead on it while living in the 5th wheel.

I understand from him that this is becoming quite common these days.

Fixed my mistake.

The question will come up.
Now when I call NICS, it specifically states in a recorded message that the name and address on your 4473 must exactly match that on your license.

Right,
Only question is I had an address but change of address for mail went to a PO Box which can't be used for proof residency; hence the physical address. But I never made an "official" COA to the physical address...

I'm not sure what "roster" or whatever list you get your address as official...

Thanks!

I kinda stumbled into it. It is nice to be cooling off in NM. We had snow last week! High of 45°.

I love the desert though! You could drop me in Yuma 6 months of the year and I'd be happy! With an RV that's a distinct option!

I'm not sure of SHTF or EOTWAWKI events on the horizon. Election year has everything magnified BUT I'd be as Exodus 12:11 "...your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand..." I know many people quite flatfooted and as I'm sure many are aware here if you just now decided to stock ammo....almost $1 a round for 5.56...

RV is essential I think. 38 gallons of water, 14 gallons of propane. Tundra has 38 gallon tank and 500 mile capacity with trailer in tow. Generator, solar panels... Mine's not even high capacity for any of that. I could do a month off grid and restock fast...I gotta learn more RV boondock skills...

Thanks!

He purchased his 5th wheel at auction and found it had a lot more damage than he expected. He is going to stay at his father’s house until they finish fixing it up and remodeling it. He should be mobile in the next month or two. I think he is going to increase capacities of water, propane and gas as well as add solar to the roof. He is accumulating food stores and will be stocking them as other supplies at various storage facilities around his planned route. We have a large enough family and resources that his journey will take him around the Midwest to the western states every 6 months. We are a stay on his planned Phoenix destination. He recently just purchased his first firearm and I found him a decent deal on a case of cheap (Relatively) 9mm.

When I was a very young man I considered selling everything and buying a van and living out of it for a few years. Instead I got married and settled down. Now I am retired and my wife and I are capable of traveling but on a limited basis as she is disabled. So hotel stays are on our agenda as they have the facilities she needs. Keep us up to date on your travels. I am interested in hearing your experiences.

Some shops will not sell to anyone with a PO box on a drivers license, they require a valid physical address. The address on the 4473 is suppose to be the same as the address on the ID and is suppose to be a physical address and not a mailing address, people don't live in boxes. Some shops overlook this requirement, many, following the law, will not.
