I know you are after a semi-auto, but a pump action shotgun action in the dead of the night is a universally understood sound for "You're F*cked". Plus, less worry about a malfunction in a pump vs semi-auto.

as noted a semi could be an issue, however one can usually disspell that by using your self defense ammo and be sure it cycles the unit correctly, hot and cold.

and id bet as long as the unit used is reliable, it could be anything that functions, I've always been a fan of the pumps, as it gives you time to reflect on your follow up shot, a semi, one tends to pull till nothing comes out after the last pull, adrenaline can do this to one in a time of emergency,
best of luck with choice

I too am a fan of pump shotguns. I have always had a couple on hand. Now I have bone spurs and bursitis in right shoulder. Bought the Mossberg 930 with 18.5” breecher barrel, blue steel. Put a GG&G 2 shot extension on it. Shot it with quail loads, low recoil buck, high recoil buck, and low recoil slug. Functioned every time. The raised white dot front sight was right on at 25 yards with low recoil slug. By no means was this a thorough, rigorous test. I fired about 20 rounds. With seven rounds in the gun, a full side saddle and a full butt stock sleeve, it is heavy, recoil is almost nothing and follow up shots are easy. I can attest to the hard use that Remington 870’s can handle. Be it P model, Wingmaster, or Express they have handled hundreds of rounds in training classes without problems

The IAC Hawk is a Rem clone that might fit the bill if you are on a budget: https://www.iacshotguns.com/982pump.html

I understand the sound effect, Im looking for stealth.

Beretta 1301 Tactical.

I am very happy with mine, I added a mag tube exctension and ran it as my 3 gun shotgun for two seasons. I went through two classes with it as well. It makes the Mossberg guys jealous.

Uncle Joe says you only need A double barrel. Just stick it out the door and bang and they run away.

He hasn't got to the part of them being inside yet....

You know the sound a pump makes when being racked makes grown men pee them selves and revert to a fetal position screaming dont hurt me. I've seen hundreds of men hit the ground when one was racked over a loud speaker. Hell dozens hit the ground when I did it once. Being unarmed inmates, some in leg irons might have had something to do with it. It probably wont translate into the real world like the uncle Joe types say...

Since predators arent grown men or unarmed prisoners YMMV. I suggest you actually load your weapon and practice.

Beyond that I'm not a semi auto guy. Spent too many decades with pumps and semi autos hurt my delicate shoulders, but I'm sure there are modern semi automatic shotguns that dont make one wish for an elephant gun like soft shooting reprieve. I've never shot one. They kick like...well like nothing else.
