At the very least, she should be fired for pointing her weapon at the suspect when the other officer is in front of her. My god, do they lose their situational awareness when the gun comes out. Anyways.

Thought the same thing... found myself wondering (hoping) that maybe it had something to do with the body-cam fish eye effect - but the more I watch it the more I think it's just really wrong. The image at about 4:30 - 5:00 where they are right behind the taser officer scares the piss out of me... I'd be pissed if I were the taser officer watching that.

I'm seldom critical of police shoot / don't shoot decisions - mostly because I have a hard time second guessing someone who was there - unless there is a clear indication of malice or a gross deviation from escalation of force rules. In this one however, based on what I see, I wouldn't have pressed the trigger when it got pressed. I didn't see anything aggressive in her actions - I saw someone disconnected from reality - but not aggressive - and based on distance and how she was moving I wouldn't have pressed. I like to think that I would have let the taser attempt first as soon as she started moving forward. If that happened and was ineffective I probably would have pressed the trigger a second later... On the other hand - if the person had jumped up and started rushing I would have shot - but she didn't - and I can't get to pressing the trigger when she did.

Scene control was a mess... WAY too many voices... way too little recognition of what was working and not working.

Lots of opportunity for education out of that situation (IMHO). As to firing the officer(s)... I tend to think that firing someone should result from actions out of malicious intent / evil - or repeated mistakes and a failure to learn from training. Unless there is more to the story - I didn't see that... I saw lots of mistakes... but I didn't see anyone doing anything intentionally malicious. If the officer had a history of being trigger happy, or making bad decisions, then sure - fire them. Alternately, if they had a history of strong work and / or the rest of the story puts the shooting in context - I can see it as a teachable moment.

Yeah - definitely altered... I wonder what it was... At first I thought that they might have been missing her - but that shot to the shin that made her bleed - wow - that would have been seriously painful to someone not massively dulled by something.

2 I refrained from ANALysis in my OP. However, I did go over this thoroughly with my son. I woul hope they tried some creative talking FIRST? However, such chat SHOULD have been on the camera...dontcha think? :think: I am not down with the overwhelming show and use of force from-jump. :naughty:

1 THIS is a perfect example of why the camera is never the whole picture, pardon-the-pun. The stairwell looks like a fairly comfortable climb. Actually, it's quite narrow and steep. You're entire focus is on the climb, or descent, if you are normal and of sound mind. I've been up and down them a few times.

4 Correct. In my day, the first officer on-scene was obliged to take-the-lead. Thus, ONE voice with commands to mitigate her confusion and agitation. The others should merely have covered.

3 It's quite clear that the 40 was NOT generating the pain-compliance effect they wanted. :?: The 3rd and 4th shots from it were unnecessary. That's when the
taser-officer should have taken a shot. If she was out-of-range, I am betting it was by only a few feet and he could've went to the foot of the stairs for the 2nd shot.
