Long time member.
I just tried to see whats happening in the classifieds.
I do not meet requirements to view.
I have not posted much lately, but I checked them out a couple weeks ago and I could get in?
What is the new policy?
Thanks in advance.

OH-man has been around a long time, I have done several deals with him and he is a great guy to do business with. Welcome back Steve, get your post count up and you'll be back on the ad's in no time.

The fastest way to get posts in would be go to New to Arizonashooting and start say hello to all the people. Just say hello a d move to the next. Spend 5 to 10 min doing just that and your posts will add up quick. What you can see just put some short responses in and go to next.

You know how I know that you didn't read the info about how to get access to the classifieds?

If he does what you are suggesting, the algorithm that's in place will actually make it more difficult for him to get access and take longer.

So In order to get people to see and use the classifieds, you want them to participate more in the threads? Ok so their are a hand full of people that talk in the threads and those same people put stuff in the classifieds. So you have a dedicated let's say 20 people that post things and after awhile those same people are the only ones that have access. Those 20 people are the only ones buying and selling. That seems like one hell of a small market. Why not open it up a little more to draw more clientel to the forum. Just asking

On the first page of Handguns for Sale only (not counting the other categories) there are 22 different members. Want to go back further?

If the purpose of this site were to buy and sell items, you'd be right... but it's not.

This will answer your questions, if you actually take the time to read it: https://www.arizonashooting.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4

Note especially: "This site does not exist for the sole purpose of promoting the free-market exchange of legal goods and services, but rather the intent is to unite a community of like-minded enthusiasts within the State of Arizona and provide a means whereby each of us can communicate and interact with each other."

For me the best part of this site are the jokes and cartoons but that's just me. I do post occasionally when I see a thread that interests me and it has been enough posts to continue to look at and participate in classified ads. So I don't really think the policy is that strict.

But, since there is a classified section, it would be great if it were expanded to aid all of us who are enthusiasts to have a bigger audience. It has gotten a lot more difficult these days for private folks to sell guns to each other. Opening that up to more people would be a great service. Something that would also be 2nd Amendment friendly.

As you've hopefully read (since I've posted it countless times), the purpose of this site is NOT to act as a venue for buying/selling firearms. It's not "Backpage Lite". That is NOT the reason this site exists - it's an added benefit to the members who actively participate as contributing members of the AZS community.

Further, remember that those jokes and cartoons you enjoy wouldn't be there if someone wasn't providing that content. Like that's a draw for you, other firearm-related posts and content is what brings others to the board for them to read, comments and discuss - not just passively read it. The key is that people need to actually provide that content - and the more that's provided, the more people chime in on it, more discussion occurs and more content is generated. The "occasional posters" or the ones that just like to browse and read without participating - which has been the vast majority of people on this site - don't help in that regard. We need to change that metric so that the majority - or at least a considerable amount more - provide content rather than just consume it.

You are forgetting or conveniently ignoring that fact that it isn't free to run a web site. It requires monthly hosting expenses that scale as usage increases, code upkeep, updates, time spent maintaining, etc. While I've been paying that out of my own pocket for 2 years now, that's not sustainable long-term and the hope of all web sites like this is to offset that with advertising revenue or membership fees to at least break even by covering the operating costs, or make a bit to cover time and other intangibles spent by me or developers. To make a site attractive to advertisers (we have ZERO after 2 years), you need to have more visitors, more people, more users. To bring in more users and people, you need to have more fresh, new and relevant content. Letting *everyone* post/read ads, might attract more people, but provides little to no new content as they rarely post. Look at the number who are "complaining" about the enforcement of the new policy who have been around for 2 years and have 10 posts - how is that helpful to the AZS community?

But if you insist that you only want access to the classifieds and don't want to help by spending some of your time and knowledge by providing some content, you can just put your money where your mouth is and become a patron supporter of the site to get access to the classifieds. Either way, if you want to use just that one feature (the classifieds), you have those two options - but I can't afford to keep paying out of my own pocket indefinitely for everyone's convenience. That's the bottom line. People who are complaining seem to think they are entitled to this and that I should pay for them to be able to use it. I don't understand that mentality.

More content is a good thing, I do notice more happening here recently then 2 yrs ago when I first registered, thus being one of those with low post counts. I think we all thought everything from the old AZS was simply gone then when .org showed up we all thought it was the same site which obviously is not the case.

I did not know being a patron was a thing. I for sure will drop some cash to support the site. I like to support good solid forums to hopefully keep them alive or avoid buy outs to corporate run forum sites. Anyone that has seen a vertical scope run forum knows what Im talking about.

SH went downhill quickly when it was sold. :(

I've committed to not divesting myself of this site, like I did with AZS.com. The catch to it is that while I am doing well - personally - and able to use my own income from my day job to cover costs to run this (at my expense, of course), that may not always be the case - so it's important to run it in a way where it can be sustainable, long-term, so the site is never in a position where other options need to be looked at. That means patrons and ad revenue. I've never pushed the patron supporters, 'cause I don't like the optics of begging/asking for financial support - you actually have to seek out the info on where to go to do that. My preference has always been to support it via unobtrusive advertising.

This whole having access to classifieds, then not, then having them again, then not, then having them again, then not is getting old.

I'm not here to just buy and sell. Actually, I haven't bought or sold anything, but I like to look and see. Maybe something will catch my eye. I just like to browse.

Why does access keep going in and out constantly?

I'm a brand new member, so I haven't experienced this in and out business, but I understand why that would be frustrating. I also understand that they're making it a privilege to the active/trusted users in the group, and that has a huge benefit as well.

I'm selling a couple guns elsewhere right now, and I just had a guy flake out on me yesterday. No call, no show. It really sucked, especially after I reconfigured a rifle with a different stock because he didn't want to pay for the expensive Sage EBR that was mounted on it. I understand life happens and someone may have committed to come, but they have to bail for a legitimate reason. I just wanted to know about it in my case, and I believe that was a simple courtesy they could have provided.

I think having a more closed exclusive group would encourage grown-up behavior instead of flakiness. Just my two cents (coming from someone who can't even access the classifieds).

I have added some content lately to legitimately up my post count. I wonder if I become a paid member, will I then have access to the classifieds? Or must I continue to post my inane drivel so that someday I will finally have access? I guess I am asking if I can buy my way into access to the classifieds?

Who knows? That could be one of the metrics added to the mix. Either way, I think it's probably reasonable to chip in $5 every once in a while if you feel like your getting something out of this community.

Just for reference, I only joined yesterday, and I have almost as many posts as you, so maybe you don't have as many posts as you think. Maybe I just post a lot, or maybe I just have nothing better to do with this quarantine.

I think the minimum donation is $5.00 per month on an automatic payment basis. I would be glad to do this if I was assured access to the classifieds.
