I am ready to take the plunge and put a red dot optic on full size 9mm handgun. What do you guys recommend as far as gun and optic? I want a threaded barrel and suppressor height sights. Looks like CZ, sig, and glock are options. Am I missing any? Trijicon seems the most popular sight. Are their others just as good? Thanks.

I don't know if your intentions are to use it with a suppressor but an RDS and a suppressor aren't always the best combo. The blowback can dirty up the glass pretty fast.

The FN509T would fit what you're asking. Springfield recently came out with an OSP Elite that would do what you want. S&W has an OR gun as well but don't think it comes with a threaded barrel and suppressor sights. Lots of options for OR guns these days.

There are many options available today, are they really available. I'm in the middle of this right. My eyesight is marginalized, I'm up in age, and every time I go to a range, it takes me 50+ rounds to get any where it becomes natural to me to acquire a target. I enjoy target shooting but the main reason I own guns is for self protection. I'm hoping a red helps me reduce the time and rounds to make me comfortable and reduces the time it takes.

But the big problem I see today, is in complete systems, acquiring one is a real challenge. They are all on B.O. Today if one is available, you will pay a premium. To me its a problem, since I don't have unlimited funds, to pour into a single gun. Even piecing a optic ready weapon is a little bit easier, as long as you change your standards to match what is available.

I have an optic that finally came in yesterday, its not the one I really wanted, but it will do.

I admit that I am a beginner in this subject. I haven't had a glock in over 10 years, but I went with a glock 19 gen 5 MOS and a holosun 507c Green. My eyes were so bad that I couldn't see the bullet holes at 15 feet. I got the site settled in at 7 yards and have been pretty good at hitting a 2 inch square with the pistol. I also went to the eye doctor and got glasses for shooting. Now I can see the 9mm bullet holes at 50 feet. Just a suggestion that I hope helps, and the prices will probably go down for a little while, until the election becomes more in the news.

It's really just practice and repetition with your presentation so the dot is there when you bring up the gun. I larger window does help. And if you start out with a Holosun 507C you can use the circle/dot reticle which is much bigger and easier to find until you get things down.

Yes... have backup sights that co-witness or install a higher front sight. Draw the gun, drive it out, look for the front sight as you have done for years... and the dot will be there.

I have the sig M18 with the holosun 507c , it has taken me quite a while to get used to it, old habits die hard sort of thing. Just have to keep practicing.

Your analysis is just like mine. However you made assumption that you bought glasses and they HELP you see bullet holes @ 50'. Yes works I've done that to. That's why they call them corrected lenses. But I would bet, in pretty short period of time (1-2 years), you will not be seeing bullet holes at 50'. Your eye balls will continue to age but not the glasses.

THIS, i have a few and while my favorite at this time does not have a front site to orientate with, it is shootable, but on the others the front site makes it oh so easy, but can say, i do like the red dots on some platforms, don't think i would have one on my carry, but for range fun, hell yeah.

I have already had cataracts and the lens replaced. I hope they don't change much again, but if they do back to Barnet Dulaney for more. The glasses are from Americas Best. $90 for 2 pair. If my eyes get any older they will be fossils. Lol.

As long as it's just a range toy and you are ok eventually sending the venom back for warranty work, it should be fine. My venom is actually back at vortex now and it lived on a .22lr 22/45. I bought it from someone here who gave up using them on centerfire pistols. Vortex sent him a new one and I bought it. Good thing is they have a no questions asked, lifetime warranty.

If you want proven reliability about the only thing out there right now is the Type 2 RMR. The holsoun seems to be second behind in durability and reliability.

My dad bought one, wishes now he would have bought the RMR to start with. I sent him a RMR and he will send me the new Vortex when they get one to him to go on one of my suppressed 22 pistols. Spend the money on the RMR, I have broken all others with just the round count.

I shoot faster and better with the venom over the RMR but the durability issue is what keeps a RMR on every pistol over .22 in caliber, they just are not built for the torture.

Looks like this is an older post so, you've probably already made your purchase, but the FN 509 seems to be a great option and one that I am also looking at. As for optics, I've seen a lot of videos and recommendations for Holosun. Seems as though a lot of the youtube influencers really like Holosun as an option as well. A lot more friendly on the wallet too.
