If you are observant of the activities going on around you, then what advantage have you given up? In martial arts, military and law enforcement training you are told to be a hard target, and given examples of what to do. Head on a swivel, park in well lighted areas, etc etc. Also engrained right equipment for the task.

great post, and well said, its the lazy ones who aren't paying attention to surroundings and don't want to who whine about being vulnerable while open carrying, oh well, to each his own, a right not exercised is a right lost.

A few years ago it was a big thing on this site to have an open carry dinner some place.
Everyone was all for it back then.
I never went to one but it seamed to be the cats meow back then.
What happened that changed all your minds ?

I have no problem with people carrying guns and I could care less how you do it , as long as it is carried in a safe manner.

new folks fell for the woe is me if someone sees me carrying a shooter, hehe, we had one last one to say idios to pizza man as he moved back east of the mississippi , and its a lot of work to find someplace that can handle over 30 crowd for food, lotsa whiners on the buffets, but they were happy to see us, and fed us, oh yeah, and if someone had to drive 5 miles to meet it was a whine fest. oh its too far, its in traffic, oh my, lions and tigers and bears.
they were a whole lot of fun, especially when meeting new folks with like minds on the gun rights, many have become good friends, and of those we meet regularly to shoot, and talk about you others. hehehe, just kidding, and oh yeah, didn't change my mind, still open carry as much as i do concealed, and do get a lot of comments, at my age i could freaking care less what someone thinks, its a right, and i'll exercise it till it goes away, which of course i hope never does

happy hump day

I remember the open carry was the only carry days, I grew up in the valley.
Now days, the majority of open carry people are not the old timers but the inexperienced.

And you base your conclusion on what?

I just embrace the fact that i can do both, when i want, how i choose to.
and what anyone else thinks is their thing, makes not a hill of pintos to me. :teasing-nutkick:

Just general observation. If it doesn't apply to you, it isn't you.

I open carry when the things I'm wearing or doing require it. Deep concealment increases your time to deploy, Maximum retention open carry rigs doe the same thing. I like having the option to do both. I'd say the main reasons today to open carry are comfort and convenience. I can throw on a belt rig with all I need for those bumps in the night faster than hooking in my conceal holster and fumbling with shoving things in my pocket. With modern concealment rigs and all their points of adjustment the convenience and comfort factor is becoming more of a moot point. My partner carries open (with a light concealment garment) because her body shape just doesn't work well with rigs tailored for a primarily male fashion market. Her pants are tighter and ride differently than mine, she doesn't like the idea of purse carry because of weapon retention, deployment, and the potential for malfunction. Perhaps in a week or so when her holster gets here from GunGoddess she may opt for concealing more often as not only does it have ride height adjustments but substantially more cant adjustments than my White Hat holster.

I am neither in search of attention nor am I inexperienced. I typically concealed carry, but occaisionally I open carry, and when I do I try to be very friendly to those around me. My rationale is that I would like for those who are concerned about firearms in public to have a pleasant experience with someone who is openly carrying a firearm. Mabye it works and maybe it doesn't. Just my opinion, and we all know what that's worth :)

Remember, if you have a IWB holster and the grip can be seen you are in a open carry. Just wanted everyone to know if any part of your weapon can be seen you are open carrying.

I like both. But it's situational for me of course. Quick trips, hiking, camping, etc. I'll choose my 19X which is the only open carry gun & holster combo I have. Conceal carry for most of the other times.

If I'm planning to shoot up a place like a Subway, drugstore etc, the first person I'd shoot would be the guy carrying a gun openly--he could shoot back. Concealed is the best choice.

Ok. Open carry can easily be concealed with a light coat or flannel button up. So there is the best of both worlds. Always keep a light jacket or something in your vehicle.
