I open carry when I want people to know I'm carrying. I carried concealed when I don't want them to know. That's about it. On the motorcycle I open carry and it give me more of a cushion around my bike. If I go in somewhere that does not allow it then I conceal it with no printing.

Interesting, since most people are oblivious to weather others are armed.

Walk though WalMart one day while open carrying and i would bet that 99% of the shoppers won't even notice you. The are to busy with their phones and other "not you" stuff.
I CC sometimes and OC sometimes, I honestly couldn't care anyless what the general public think of me. I carry however i feel like that day. I can guarantee that OC is faster though.
All the arguements about it giving up your tactical advantage are horse shit, those come from people without much of a clue.
If you want to OC the only suggestions I would offer are, get some type of weapon retention training (just incase) and blend in with everybody else (don't be the HEY LOOK AT ME guy).
I have read of 2 idiots that have had their guns taken from them, if you have a j-frame in your pocket that kind of helps with the fighting over the holstered gun arguement (a .357 to their knee/hip etc)
I think it depends on who, where, and why you are somewhere.
If you are a LE guy, makes since. Everyone knows you are packing anyway. This isn't the gosh damn UK.
If you are a private civilian, I believe that it draws attention to you. If something goes down, and a bad guy walks in with a gun, you are the one getting their attention.
I'd rather surprise them.

I'll open carry around the house and in the truck/Jeep, but pull a shirt over the top when I leave. I don't make a huge effort not to print though (unless the situation calls for it). I like to see folks open carrying though (as long as they're doing so safely). The general public needs to be reminded from time to time that:
1: Guns are out there
2: People carry them (more than you think)
3: They won't bite you
The only time open carry is annoying to me is when it's 100% obvious that the only reason they're doing it is for the attention it gets them.

I only open carry in the Back Country. I never give up the advantage of surprise when among the urban folks.

Having said that .. there is absolutely an advantage to being able to draw from open carry in a defensive situation. Practice all you like it is still another step to retrieve a concealed firearm.

I am not without prejudices and not nearly perfect enough to not come to pre conceived notions about people but it is rarely if ever about accessories. Recently passed a guy who was clean and dressed nicely, not suit but looked like a contractor, in front of Lowes and he was carrying OWB on the hip. Except for noting it and trying to see what he was carrying and in what .. No alarm bells went off and I am originally from NYC!
Saw a guy crossing the street at broadway that looked like one of those meth head zombies with open leather vest and no shirt, pants hanging down and carrying a heavy revolver in an old nylon droppy holster and thought he was a skell.
He hurts the gun community along with several other communities he might lay claim to because he is a skell, not because he carries a gun openly.
With all that said .. gun ownership shouldn't be about a popularity contest and if Skell boy is not prohibited and just looks nasty .. he has every right to carry as he pleases.
Once the gun community makes it a popularity contest we have lost. It is no longer about the RIGHT to own but how unintimdating we can look to anti gunners and that is far from the point.
