I remember when I showed up to basic training and found 6 or so bowls lined up on the wall with nary a partition between them. Just bowls mounted to the wall about as close as the ones in that pic.
I had played team sports in Jr High, High school and college so being around naked dudes wasnt unusual to me but
Poop'in with a dude poop'in 12 inches to your left and another poop'in 12 inches to your right while people were brushing their teeth and taking showers ... well .. it was a different experience!! :mrgreen:
Some guys would try and hold on to their load until the middle of the night to poop in private. Meh .. you get over it in a day or so and just let er rip. You just dont lean as far to wipe .. you know ..personal space and all that.

An old man lay awkwardly sprawled across three entire seats in the movie theatre
When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the old man,
"Sorry sir, but you're only allowed one seat."
The old man didn't budge.
The usher became more impatient.
"Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."
Once again, the old man just muttered and did nothing.
The usher marched briskly back up the aisle, and in a moment returned with the manager.
Together the two of them tried repeatedly to get the old disheveled man to respond, but with no success.
Finally they summoned the police.
The officer surveyed the situation briefly, then asked, "All right, buddy, what's your name?"
"Fred," the old man moaned.
"Where you from, Fred?" asked the police officer.
With a terrible strain in his voice, and without moving, Fred replied;
"The balcony"......

And it was the same way when you got assigned to a company somewhere but you know, having the crappers so close together had one HUGE advantage:
It became easy to go from both ends at once when the mess hall gave you food poisoning.
