Amazon had planned an east coast headquarters and major distribution center. NYC and over 200 cities pitched ideas and offers last year. NYC won and as Amazon tried to proceed, the local politicians and self interest groups kept upping the ante with ridiculous requests. Last week, Amazon said they were considering a new location due to those unreasonable requests and today followed through on that threat.

Good for Amazon. Instead of being bullied by a bunch of socialists and liberals, they said they will go to a more business friendly state that will appreciate the investment by Amazon and the jobs it will bring.

I lived in NYC until I was 43 and worked in LIC for about 5 years. The place is basically a generating plant, a huge housing project and then industrial.... warehouses and shops. Its pretty run down ane grey and while I loved my job coming out of the train into LIC was kind of depressing. They built one or two towers for fancy expensive condominiums on the water that overlook Manhattan but when I left they were still struggling to fill them. There just arent many houses around .. some but they are old ugly have no soul and sandwiched in the mix between buildings otherwise it would have been a perfect place for gentrification because it is one or two stops from Manhattan.
It was like that for all my life. Gritty. The streets are all cracked up, it has an odor the sidwalks havent been touched since they were installed 100 years ago or more.
The best thing that could have happened to that place would have been Amazon. Incredibly stupid and short sighted.

When I hear miss stupid ass say .. oh but with 3Billion we can give teachers raises .. how does that help all the people who arent teachers and how does that fill the tax coffers. Here is the part I really dont get. When you talk about redistribution of wealth and socialism the deal was the PERFECT example. The city was basically taking everyones money .. rich and poor alike and buying jobs to the tune of 48,000 per job. If that is not redistribution what is. They should have loved it ..

According to the state, Amazon will generate $27.5 billion in state and city revenue over 25 years, a 9:1 ratio of revenue to subsidies—an arrangement Cuomo called “the highest rate of return for an economic incentive program the state has ever offered.” This is predicated on the assumption that after the company begins hiring in 2019, Amazon will create 25,000 jobs over the next decade (with up to 40,000 when all is said and done), with an average salary of $150,000. The state estimates the project will facilitate 1,300 construction jobs and 107,000 in total direct and indirect jobs.

In order to fund local infrastructure—streets, sidewalks, open space and the like—Amazon will utilize the city’s PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) program, estimated by Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen at $600 to $650 million over four decades; the specifics of how those funds will be allocated will be decided upon via community engagement.

Amazon has also agreed to allocate $5 million for workforce development and to host job training sessions and job fairs at the nearby Queensbridge Houses, although no hiring guarantees were made in the memorandum. Amazon will also build a new school with as many as 600 seats on its campus, along with a “tech startup incubator.”

And then there’s the helipad: The memorandum allows for the construction of a private helicopter landing, which will be limited to 120 days of use each year.

This doesnt even account for all the side bar stuff like Additional sanitation jobs, additional police and fire, Med staff and the influx of hipsters with their parents money that would have bought up those old shitty house and messed up my favorite greasy spoons.
Diblasio is a waste of skin and he got reelected and him and Cuomo just got their ass kicked by a little dumb ass Puerto Rican girl.
