My deer rifle getting heavy!

I’ve used my 1885 Browning .30’06 for deer hunting around 25 years. But that bitch is getting heavy on my 61 year old body. (Tons of health issues)
Thinking of getting a 6.5 Grendel CZ 527 American. They are nice, well built rifles, sometimes excellent wood. Single set trigger. And they are accurate. And weigh about 6.4 pounds before optics.

I know that the Grendel isn’t as powerful as the creedmore. Lower velocity.

But. I like good figured wood, and blues steel in my hunting guns.
Need light. And accurate, I’m a snob, if it don’t group well I don’t like it.

I know that the Ruger American is light and 6.5 creedmore available.

But, can’t stand that plastic stock.
I like to collect something to pass down to my grandkids.

Question: Any of you have a Grendel bolt action that you use? And how does it perform for you?

There is a 6.5 Grendel forum and the Howa is the preferred rifle for accuracy over there. .5 MOA with commercial match ammo.
I'm like you, I prefer real wood or laminated wood stocks for their looks. AJI has a laminated stock Mossberg rifle in 6.5. The reviews for the Mossberg are also excellent for hunting use. 1 MOA will commercial ammo.

Shot a Mossberg laminated 6.5 Grendel today at the range. It's a hoot to shoot. Hit the small steel as fast as I could work the bolt.
And it's lighter than the full size #9+ trapdoor that I started hunting with years ago.

I’ve taken two Arizona deer with 6.5 Grendel chambered AR. I honestly wouldn’t hesitate to use it on something larger with the proper bullet. As far as a light handy rifle in an effective light recoiling caliber I think this is a great choice.

My 6.5 Grendels perform way above their weight class....very under rated cartridge IMO.

For deer, I’m happy with a Grendel and would be confident within 600yds.
Big mulies and elk, I’m going 65CM or 7-08 for about the same range.
I shot steel competitively for years and can hit farther, but I do not like the ethics of long distance hunting (animals aren’t predictable once flight time approaches/passes 1 sec). Even at closer ranges and “buck fever” I do not take the shots at bad angles/exposures that the magnum crowd tout their guns will be good for “even if a less than perfect shot is all you get”.

Deer hunting is a big subject. So is gun collecting. To me, two different subjects. I’ve banged up some nice stuff out in the bush and regretted it. Have a Howa Grendel and like it but for me, it’s a coyote gun. Have buddy who likes the small stuff and has killed a couple of mule deer with a .17 Mach IV, a called lion with a .17 Hornet and countless whitetail deer with a .223. I can’t do that. Tikka makes or made a nice little .260 with a handsome wood stock for those times when you put the binocs down and just want to sit and admire your rifle. Rem. Model Seven in 260 or 7-08 aren’t bad choices. BTW I’m 66 and have had three leg surgeries. I appreciate a light rifle but if you can get it up to the top of the hill, it’s nice to have something with some punch. How lucky are we that these are the problems we wrestle with?
