Award long over due for him. I spent some time with the 9th also. I wonder if his rifle was the Matty Mattel or the M14? We had both available at that time. As I watched the video, I was amazed at how old we all look now.

Guess on my part, it was the Matty Mattel. I came into country about month after that took place in I-Corp. It seem most line units had AR's then. 8-)
 
%2 years, way over do. The Navy Cross is nothing to sneeze at, but he should have been awarded the CMH. Like he said he could have crawled off ,but he put his buddies life ahead of his. A true hero. Old Navy ground pounded,in country (1972) I carried the M16A1.
