Any advice on a LR-308 upper. I bought a billet lower a while ago and I now ready to buy or build an upper.

I know areo has them, but any other brands? I would like it ~1 MOA, bonus points for side charging. DI or piston.

Thanks

I've got an LWRC REPR (not for sale) that I like, but worth looking at

They are proud of them though...

I’ve always liked PSA. Support the guys that support us. They look like LR308 but descriptions read ar10.

Take the money saved and buy some ammo and actually shoot/train.

The LR/AR-10 platform doesn't have the same "like legos" continuity across brands like the AR-15 because there isn't an a standardized spec for them. So, I'd advise going with the same brand of upper and lower, and potentially even handguard.

All of this said, I've got a .308 built on Aero receivers that is very accurate, so you certainly don't need to spend the big bucks to hit your target. What's more important (assuming the other parts aren't junk), is the barrel and trigger.

If you are building it yourself, I recommend checking your bolt for headspace, or better yet buying a barrel that comes with a headspaced bolt.

I'd only go the piston route if it were known/really good quality parts, preferably purchased as a complete upper, and/or with an adjustable gas system.

It’s worth getting a custom barrel if you want moa accuracy. McGowen, x caliber, mostek , something along those lines. If your getting 18in or longer barrel, get at minimum rifle length gas system. 20+in get rifle +1 or rifle +2 for something like 6cm or 22cm. Definitely get an adjustable gas block. I like the aero enhanced upper where the rail attaches directly to the upper instead of hanging off the barrel nut.

I just got bit by the lack of standard with big block ARs. Specifically between DPMS and Aero Precision.

Had a 12.5" FF handguard from Midwest for years. Not a bad part other than the wimpy clamping action on the barrel nut. Midwest advised using loctite to bond the two, and it did stop the slippage under recoil.

Shot great once I figured out the gas tube non-standard thing. Then got a wild hair to get a properly secured handguard. Liked the Aero S-One and the clamping design. Ordered one and of course tore everything apart to install it.

The everyone for themselves strikes as soon as I try to spin the barrel nut on. Goes a few threads and no more. Nut wrench got if a few more turns, but decided this was bullshiite.
Aero's site says this should fit "AR308 uppers, whatever that means.

Spent far too much time with Aero only to be told tough shiite, they are not responsible for cross-manufacturer compatibility. Seems they should know of this as DPMS is not an uncommon receiver out there.

I agree with the earlier suggestion to source all the parts from one maker, if something does not fit, they cannot point fingers at the other guy.

Everyone I know that has done a DIY upper for a .308 has had issues with them. So, PSA to the rescue for a complete one for me. I put it on a 80% lower and was off the to races shooting too much costly ammo with I think one hiccup. I think the upper was $199 when I bought it.

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day

PSA has complete uppers, or the parts to build one. Wanting MOA from an AR platform is asking a lot IMHO, but anything is possible. Good luck with your build.
