I have one and agree that it definitely helps you improve your technique.
Pros and cons?
Pro:
Rob Leatham uses one and endorses their use.
Cons:
Can't think of any.
Nope, not at all, the laser is visual, you can see where it's shooting to. I just pick random stuff, get sights aligned and "click". Well, then again, not sure which one you're
referring to though.

Awesome, I thought you had to download an ap on a phone or tablet for them to function
The context of his question was "do any pros use one for training?"
Yes, several do, Rob specifically recommends them in one of his interviews.
Using one in competition would be laser tag.
Admittedly I just watched the video, but I would argue that neither laser is better. Just different for different a training purpose, can be used for both but each has it strong point.
I believe the bore sighting laser is better for (trigger control) and firing pin activated, quick flash laser for (sight alignment). But I have never used the quick flash laser....might pick one up to play with it, looks like a hoot.
They work equally well for trigger control, no advantage to the bore sighter.
The real advantage of the trainer laser is battery life. The bore sight laser will eat through batteries many times faster than the momentary switch activated laser trainer.
The electronic target can keep a record and score of your shots with the trainer. You can shoot a series of shots and it will show you the hits. Can't do that with a constant on bore sighter
Best with SA/DA type guns, I liked it for first round fire, second of little use with no recoil. Have used the system for over 10 years but, no sub for live ammo. JMHO

Yes, it's so much more pleasant with SA/DA, but I'll still do this with a striker-fired gun. For me, this training tool is only used for drawing and squeezing off that first shot as an exercise to get on target as quickly as possible. It's a full reset each time to a holster, so racking the slide isn't that bad. It's just nice practice between range visits.
