She was trying to break her own Speed Record.

"Yesterday, while attempting to beat her own land speed record, the 52,000 horsepower jet-powered car driven by racer, fabricator, and television personality Jessi Combs crashed in the Alvord Desert in Oregon, killing her, as local news reports. Combs was 36 years old and held the title of “fastest woman on four wheels” after breaking 398 mph in that same North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger in 2013.
Combs was attempting to beat her previous record, and had attempted it as recently as last year, when she managed a 483.227 mph shakedown run before mechanical problems ended the attempt

A recent interview..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHBrb7IWapc

I had spent time talking with her at several of the King of the Hammers events and she was always a down to earth person. She once even spent a half hour or so talking to just my grandson (he was 15 att) at one event.

I'm not saying her death isn't tragic, but given the choice, would any of us decide to take the long road, withering away in a hospital bed, unable to even walk and getting dinner pumped through a feeding tube, or go out younger while doing what we love? No one will ever see her as an old woman, now she is forever ageless. Ironic shirt she's wearing in that video...

I couldn't agree more. I did all the cool shit I was going to do, screwed the pretty girls, Had a wonderful career doing something I never would have thought possible and slayed the dragons I needed to slay. Now I rot and watch time pass.

I wake with the realization that all the exciting parts are behind me and all that is left is to watch my body and value wither before my very eyes. Not appealing.

I feel for her family and friends.
