Run a true fiscal conservative that doesn’t give a shit about abortion, gay marriage, or other church-inspired policies that have zero impact on society as a whole and they’ll win in a landslide. What you’re describing is a single party system. That’s how kings are made. The path government is on isn’t sustainable and that’s evident with the emergency spending bills they have to pass almost annually now. Just holding the ship on its path and flipping a coin to determine who is in office does nothing but guarantee that we hit the iceberg.

If you drill down into what people mean by “in the middle” I think you will find they generally side with democrats on social issues and conservative policies on fiscal and defense issues. It’s easier for conservatives to drop the social issues than it is for Democrats to drop their tax and spend/wealth redistribution and open border platforms.

They didn't even attempt to invoke the one statutory authority they do potentially have at their disposal, the criminal contempt statute (2 USC § 194). So they just wrote their equivalent of a long Substack screed, and hoped the phrase "criminal referral" would get people excited
