Here’s my question to more recent service members.

Ok, we all know about the 85B worth of weapons in the desert.

Don’t we have some form of “LoJack” on all our motorized equipment? From MRAP’s to Apache attacks.
You’d think we would have that capability , and shut the shit down!?

The problem is it is remotely hackable. While we could locate our stuff, perhaps the enemy could too.

Back in the late 80s the Pentagon was looking into making all future dog tags RFID as well. Via satellite, commanders could see live where the troops were and even how many were casualties. The technoweenie bean counter types loved it,...until someone pointed out Russia might be able to as well if the system got compromised.

Better to have all you gear and troops be unchipped than trackable by your opponent.

I can understand that. Makes sense.

But I figured that they would have some kind of “master key” to shut down.

A self destruct button would be awesome. But I’m sure that wasn’t in the back door deal to arm the taliban with the best. I hope pedo Joe got his 30 pieces of silver

Finding all the rifles and pistols might be a problem , but finding all the trucks , helicopters and airplanes would be easy with todays satellite technology.
All it would take is an administration that was willing to go get them and do what is necessary.
There is no excuse for all this equipment to go unchecked.

Yes I realize that rifles, machine guns, handguns etc are a loss. But I’d love the next admin to go pull repo man on them.

Determined to keep track of their guns, some U.S. military units have turned to a technology that could let enemies detect troops on the battlefield, The Associated Press has found.

The rollout on Army and Air Force bases continues even though the Department of Defense itself describes putting the technology in firearms as a “significant” security risk.

The Marines have rejected radio frequency identification technology in weapons for that very reason, and the Navy said this week that it was halting its own dalliance.

The other thing is that now all of the equipment left behind can now be reversed engineered. Some of the higher tech stuff is no longer exclusive.

Well, I can dream. Imagine a self destruct button! Or a “send drone attack here”. Button. I understand all the reasons it wouldn’t work. But if it could work how freakin awesome.
