The Maryland part is made up and perhaps his slang name to try to justify whatever crappy work was done to that poor thing. If the barrel is over 16" and OAL is greater than 26" then I think it should be legal. I know availability ant what it used to be but the Marlin 795 is a sub $200 gun new.
