The internet is up in arms over plans to name a baby girl after a weapon, a rifle, with a very unique spelling.

The name announcement was shared to Reddit's Face Palm forum by user Wow-how-original on Wednesday, where it has already amassed more than 50,000 upvotes.

The texts start with someone saying "congrats," before the responder—presumably one of the parents—replies: "Thanks, we are so excited."


They're then quizzed over names, with the mom or dad saying: [highlight=yellow]"I'm pretty sure we are naming her Reighfyl. Pronounced like 'rifle.'"[/highlight] To which the person simply replies "oh."
 
I'm not offended that the name is gun related, but I do feel sorry for that kid. It's a dumb as hell thing to name a kid. But if the IG post is to be believed, the dude knocked up his step-daughter, so not really surprising that this idiocy exists.
 
The doctors who deliver children should have veto power over the baby name...we've all met or heard of people with idiotic names.

Imagine going through your entire life having to explain your name to people. How to spell it, pronounce it, etc.

There are multiple studies that show that people with "ethnic" or "racial" names are at a very large disadvantage when looking for jobs. Here is one of them; https://www.nber.org/digest/sep03/employers-replies-racial-names

Life is difficult enough...why a parent would choose to add more difficulty by naming a child something stupid is beyond me.

That study is over TWO DECADES old. Different times.

These days you are less likely to get the job if you names is David versus it being D'Jamiroquai.

By the time you are looking for a career, you can legally change your name to whatever the F you LBGQ+ want it to be.

My wife has to often explain her name. It's different for sure. I guess in Oklahoma it was more common.

Her name is Oneta, but she just goes by "O" since most people pronounce it wrong.

My child bearing days are over but I think I'll encourage my kiddo to name his first child "Dillon Onetrefor <Last Name>. It's even gender neutral.

It doesnt take much to inform people how you want your name said. As well as legally change it.
 
yeah, amazing how many think richard the short name is dick, had a salesman come in my office and call me that, promptly stood up and showed him what a real dick was. guy bought killed himself trying to get outta me joint, lol, fun stuff,

i have four daughters call' all jones, they all answer, go figure
