It would seem one would either need to be an FFL or have the importation done through an FFL that is properly licensed in accordance with ITAR/EAR. The ITAR/EAR lists the items that require import licenses and specifies what can and can't be imported. I know they changed the rules for ITAR in 2020 supposedly simplifying it. I work in the aerospace industry and its still a hassle to deal with ITAR/EAR rules. My business has to have an ITAR registration through the State Department even though we don't import/Export anything. Its because we work on items that could be exported. Interesting topic. Lots more stuff online to read.

I am planning to get in touch with an ffl to do the transfer. It's the tax and documents needed is what I need in help with. Was trying to read the atf site but too much crop to read. Wondering if anyone has successfully done so? Cost?

What gun from what country? It can make a huge difference....just giving the gun to an FFL is just the tip of the iceberg. 99% of FFL's will have no idea where to start...there are people who specialize in this exact issue.

It's an hk usp 45 my late dad owned. I want it with me to remember him. I have an uncle that works for customs in that country, I just need whatever papers and taxes I need to settle with an ffl? No problems with me and the transfer as I've bought many guns from an ffl.

You shouldn't have issues importing that type of firearm...it meets all the points requirements for importation of a pistol....plus HK imported them for years.

What country is it coming from? Canada, Mexico, Belgium...there are 195 options...all have varying export requirements.

You are not only dealing with IMPORT of a firearm...you are also dealing with EXPORT as well.

If you have an uncle that works for customs, why don't you ask him?

Coming from the Philippines, he is asking there but i want to make sure I have my ducks in a row here as well.

Spent 60 seconds on Google "firearm import service"...

FYI, it's going to be expensive.
