If you could only have one rifle, and one cartridge for AZ hunting, what would it be?

Like the title question asks: what cartridge and what rifle would you pick for a do all hunting rifle in AZ? From southern coues deer to mule deer to elk to prong horn.

I'm not a great hunter or anything, but I have brought home an elk and a couple deer in my life. I'd grab something like a Bergara B14 in 6.5 Creedmoor. 308 would be second choice.

300 Winchester Magnum. If you need the range AND the knockdown power you have it. I use a worked over Winchester Model 70 for delivery.

For the past 15 +/- years it's been a Browning X-bolt in 308. 168-gr bullets in the >2,600-fps muzzle velocity range will do it all in AZ.

lol, this one has been beaten to death over the years, i for one cannot fathom having only one rifle, even in todays political atmosphere or any future one, there can never be just ""ONE""

So what are your multiple choices?

every caliber there is for big game, pretty simple, what you have ammo for , or if you have the ammo, you need to get the gat. lol

There are a lot of great calibers out there for hunting, but if you're looking to get only one hunting rifle (boring), I would go with 308 just because of ammo availability. You can almost always find it on the shelf when everything else is cleared out.

I don't know what that means. You'd have one of every caliber?

Just some background on me: I have a heavy barrel .308 and a short, ranch rifle type .243. Several years ago I tagged along on an elk hunt that 300 yards was a loning shot based on the terrain. Last year I tagged a long on a southern mule deer hunt that 400 yards felt like a close shot. This year I'm hoping to get drawn for southern white tail.

awe the elusive cous deer, hunted the patagonia area and washington camp many decades ago, about the only place i ever encountered a cougar on a hunt. crafty critter he was, took me awhile was smelling his markings. they are typical cats, so dang quiet.

one would be smart to make a leather sling, to chuck rocks into canyons to perhaps scare the little deer outta hiding, throwing will kill yer arm
good luck, fast and smart little guys

I've hunted whitetail in southern Az ever since I started hunting.
That is all I even put in for any more.
I have probably killed more Whitetail bucks than most people have ever seen , and 99% of them were with a Remington 700 in 30.06.
300 yards is not an uncommon shot for these guys.
I don't like to shoot much farther than that.
They are one of the hardest animals to hunt in the U.S.
