The Youtube channel BACKFIRE did an extensive test 3 years ago of the 5 most "budget model" hunting rifles in the same price range as the Axis, which was one of the 5 they tested. And the Ruger American came out as the most accurate in that bunch, with the Axis coming in 2nd.

l managed to strike a deal with RJ on his Savage Axis in .223, without the acuutrigger, but with a very nice Nikon scope, NIB. The triggers suck until you cut the spring, then they suck less and are very manageable for accuracy. My Mossberg Nightrain Patriot in .308 has an adjustable trigger, and it's glass at 2.5 lbs.. The Axis you're looking at is normally priced, I got mine for well under that, and well under resale value for the Patriot.

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day

Picked up my 25-06 with accutrigger and a Nikon scope for $299 on sale at Sportsman Warehouse a couple of years ago.
