How many can I get?

I know its come up before but I cant remember. I have a Gun inbound but wanted to purchase one for my wife. They would arrive at my FFL within days of each other.

Is there some grace period I have to observe between purchases? I remember a number being thrown out before the FFL has to report it ... or did my old A$$ imagine that.

To identify gun traffickers, federal law requires dealers to report sales of more than two firearms in a five-day period to ATF. Individuals can simply evade this requirement by buying guns from multiple dealers.

However, having it reported isn't problematic as long as you're not doing illegal things, which I'm sure you aren't.

My Dad once purchased 27 handguns in one day from around 7 or 8 different dealers and no one came to take him away.

So the guns would come from 2 different dealers but proccessed through the same local ffl?

More than 2 handguns within the same 5 day period, sold to the same person, requires the FFL to complete a Form 3310.4 (Sale of Multiple Handguns).
More than 2 AR-type rifles to the same person within a 5 day period requires the FFL to complete a Form 3310.12 (Sale of Certain Types of Rifles)...this is because our state borders Mexico.

Doesn't matter what FFL's the came from...the FFL completing the transfer (Form 4473) is required to do the paperwork, if needed.

Have your wife do one of the forms, since the gun is for her. You do the other form. No extra reporting required.

Also understand that those are 5 BUSINESS days, weekends and holidays do not count.
If you get one handgun on Monday, you would need to wait till Tuesday of the next week to avoid having to be reported on a multiply handgun purchase.
