Just polished up the 1911 and put new sights on it and the damn holsters are leaving scuff marks all over. Any recommendations on good holsters that don't chew up finishes? I used to have a Galco FED holster for my G21 that was suede-lined and worked great, but of course those are discontinued

What are you using now? Is it lined at all or is it a single layer holster with flesh side in? Thumb break or open top?

Single layer Galco open top mainly, no lining or anything, just leather

As you know...all holsters will impart some wear but when I make a holster for something nice where I want to minimize wear I use two pieces of shoulder glued back to back. This means that the interior is clean, undyed and completely smooth. I stay away from suede like materials especially in AZ because it can hold grit and our air is filled with it.

With a smooth interior you can simply blow it out. The single layer holsters even if they are burnished will cause a fair amount of wear.

The other thing to call consider is fit. Nothing causes wear faster than a loose fitting holster. The gun moved around in it ever so slightly all the time you wear it.

Getting a lined holster is going to be a few more bucks from any leather guy but I think it is well worth it! It also makes the holster more rigid.

When I used to make my own holsters waaayback using kydex and abs. I used to line the inside with the peel and stick mole skin. Walgreens and cvs has them. Maybe try that? Never left any grime or marking on the slides.

I'll get by there with a couple, would like to get a new one made for the G21 also

I dont do a lot of custom orders anymore but if your in the hood (east mesa) and want to run by with them and talk holsters you are very welcome.
