Got the hint...city people are pussies and rely on the cops as their safety net instead of providing their own.

You all would rather high 5 killing someone in a good shoot then try to prevent the need to shoot someone in the first place. Because...where's the fun in that.

Yep no city limits, no worried neighbors, zero chance of hitting anyone/thing, no frightened 16yo boys trying to find their girlfriend in the rain

I asked admin to delete the thread so everyone's panties can get unbunched.

I won't make the mistake of upsetting the Nervous Nellie's again

I'm far from a city guy who relying on cops or anyone else to solve my problems. And we all are just trying to give you some advice to keep you out of trouble. As for panties getting unbunched...you better take a look at yours.

This is what happens when we let Californians in.

That's some funny sh!t    Steve this would have been a different story if you would have opened the gate and had eyes on, confronted the guy or girl in the car without a gun being seen. Then if need be pull the gun and take a kill shot. That's all. But that boundary line of your property and the county, that's the kicker. O rural areas yes know all about them. Lived in Indiana. Miles and miles of corn fields. Here in AZ I walk my property with night vision and a silenced 1911 in 45. The only people going to know I let on go is myself and god.

You’re the one sounding like a Nervous Nellie, shooting at fictional boogeymen.

All we said was to know the law as it pertains to use of force so you don’t get in trouble. You’re the one who took it to the extreme far beyond what was said.

I don't think anything was illegal, just moronic and unnecessary.

I take back roads all the time, as do most people who enjoy the outdoors. You already said the road leads to the middle of nowhere, which is a place I like to be sometimes, so the argument that they had to be there for no good is just plain stupid.

A simple scenario could go like this: You have a person X on a road they're legally allowed to be on. They pull over to take a leak, check the map, or make a call before they lose reception. You have nutjob sending his dogs after person X for being somewhere they're allowed to be. Nutjob cranks off a round. Person X unholsters or better yet, grabs a rifle, and finds cover. Nutjob continues advancing and now both person X and nutjob see each other. There's a standoff and person X thinks nutjob has already fired at him once. Maybe that ends OK or maybe that ends with at least one of them, likely nutjob who finds himself outgunned and without cover, with a few extra holes in them... All because nutjob was acting like a nutjob.

...or maybe Person(s) X got scared off, and drove onto the next town to do the home invasion, attempting to kill the husband and then raping the wife and daughters over the course of seven hours, before strangling them and setting them on fire...

...just ask Dr William Petit

If the driver of the car felt so threatened by the sound of a gunshot, why didn't he call the police? Anyone else would have made the call right away, but obviously that didn't happen...so he may have been up to no good in the first place...criminals usually don't want the police to get involved.

Most people don't call the fuzz out in the sticks where nutjob is. They handle their own business. Bottom line is Steve is an antisocial, contrarian jerk that craves online attention and to show everyone (unsuccessfully) how smart he is. Let's all just be glad that he practically moved to New Mexico instead of the heart of the state.

Burglaries and violent crime happen all over the place. By your logic, we all should stand on our front porch and fire a shot every time a car drives by.

Here's something to think about:

If I'd been the one out there and was doing innocent things, perhaps watching the submarine races with my girl and someone threw a shot and sent dogs after me, I'd definitely be back and it wouldn't be anytime I was expected.

Exactly what I did.

Yet I'm a "nutjob" for doing what you say is normal out here.

Everyone out here is antisocial. You don't move to the sticks to be a social butterfly.

Shows how ignorant you are of the area. NO ONE is going to park by someone's house out here to play slap and tickle with their gf. As they know IT WILL draw unwanted (and armed) attention to them. Neighbors watch out for neighbors and don't like people with no business there hanging around.

Hence why the lady with the flat tire (who did live out there) had her flashers going to make it obvious she wasn't hiding.

There is pretty much no traffic aside from seeing the same 20 or so vehicles every day. Seeing a new vehicle makes people pay attention to it.

Which is exactly why a car somewhere it doesn't belong, especially at night, draws attention out here. After people head home from work it is pretty rare to see a vehicle on the road after dark.

Car wasn't driving by, which is what attracted neighbor's and mine attention. Just as a strange car parked in front of your suburban home would as well. Except out here we don't have patrolling police to move them along.

After neighbor and I moved in and started being proactive the sheriffs mentioned they noted a movement of crime OUT of our area.

Your logic is flawed since no shots were fired at a vehicle that was just driving by nor was such suggested.

Things got a little interesting here night before last.

Neighbor calls me to ask if I am home as he sees a vehicle sitting near my gate with at least one person moving around. Said he first thought it was us coming home but it had sat there too long for that so he called.

So I grab a pistol and flashlight to go investigate as he is also making his way over.

As I get close to gate (but still can't see it due to trees) my dogs alert and go running into the scrub barking. Since my stealth is blown I loudly tell dogs to, "go get them" and holler out, "whose there". Almost immediately I hear a car door close and the vehicle starts to move off rapidly. So I crank off a round to speed them on their way. I fired IN A SAFE DIRECTION and it's legal to shoot on my property in any case.

I move on to gate and my also armed neighbor gets there the same time as I do and we see the vehicle has stopped a good distance down the road (too far away for us to walk to) and appears to have at least one person walking around with a flashlight. We watched it until it finally drove off out of sight.

We couldn't really see much with flashlights so I went out the next morning to look around. Didn't find any foot prints around my gate that weren't mine or the neighbors but I could see fresh tire tracks about 25 yards further up the road where a vehicle had dropped a tire into the ditch. So that was possibly what neighbor had seen. I don't think the vehicle had dropped the tire in the ditch as it tried to leave since there were a couple footprints over part of the tire track when I looked closer.

Made me feel better as it made more sense then someone trying to scope out my (lights on) place by going over the barb wire and through the scrub on a moonless night. I'm not a drug lord or on someone's hit list after all. LOL

Still it never hurts to let the word spread that people are on the look out and armed around our places.

And before someone bitches about being a meany and just chasing people off that need help, a few months ago I had gone down at night to check out a stopped car where my wash crosses the road and yes I was discreetly armed. My neighbor's home alone wife also texted me to ask what it was as she could hear yelling and said she had her AR out in case.

Turned out to be a woman with a prosthetic leg and her special needs kid (who was doing the yelling and adding to the woman's stress) with a blown tire and no clue how to get the spare down from under her SUV. Myself and another guy who stopped got her tire changed and loaded her SUV back up so she would get on her way.

F'n Californians.

I vote we send him back where he belongs. Then build the wall around California to keep the rest of those losers there.

From some of the replies in this thread it seems I belong right where I am.

It's mostly city boys with round the clock police presence/protection and neighbors living right on top of each other that have their panties in a wad.

LOL I fired in a safe direction on my own property. No chance of hitting anyone or thing. Person couldn't even say who or where the shot report came from. Could have been me...could have been my neighbor...heck could have been the guy I heard shooting the other evening. No lawyer is going to take that case. Without a warrant the Sheriff can't even come past my locked gate to ask me about it.

The issue is we have scum bags out here and no reasonable expectation of law enforcement showing up in a timely manner. So night time in the boonies with no real reason to be stopped near my place on a very lightly traveled dirt road, it's better to keep them aware that it's not safe for them to try to ply their trade in the area.

I also don't need a "valid reason" to shoot on my own property, thank you very much. I am also sitting on 36 acres so it's not like I walked out on my suburban lawn with a neighbor a stones throw away.

This is also in an area where when asked about how to deal with trespassers on people's property, a Deputy Sheriff replied, "you got guns right?"

"you got gun rights" shows just how stupid you really are. You are going to actually take the advice of a person when their job is to get a charge on you? STUPID.

Then you put it on a open forum anyone can read including LE in your area. More stupid.

"To shoot on my own property" You better have a well designed berm to keep the rounds in your yard or a neighbor and hopefully it is one from California could find a stray bullet and put it through a window with a slingshot and screw you hard.

Glad you live where you live, we already have our share of California idiots in town so glad there is one less idiot firing warning shots. Wish I would have never defended you on the other forum, not worth it.

We didn't exactly have a conversation. Instead of yelling back "I'm just checking out my car" or some other non-threatening response to my hollering, "whose there" the person(s) rapidly took off in car. Which is a bit suspicious. It is pretty well known that most everybody out here is armed though so yelling out, "I have a gun" would be kind of a Capt Obvious thing.

You left out the part where you said your dogs ran into the bushes barking and you yelled " Go get them. "
Wouldn't that be considered a threat ?
At which point person with no bad intentions hearing that and dogs coming would most likely scream out, "hey I'm just working on my car" or some such. Jumping in the vehicle and speeding off tends to give the opposite impression.

The point was deterrence, letting them know we were on the watch and could defend ourselves. So that I or neighbors WOULDN'T have to possibly deal with them breaking in at a later point. If they had bad intentions they are reconsidering them now. If they didn't then other then a bit of a scare no harm came to them. Like I clearly stated I didn't shoot AT anyone.

This didn't happen in a city where LE is just minutes away and cops are on patrol through the neighborhoods.

I must say I'm surprised at the amount of hand wringing going on here.

You bring it upon yourself, and I am enjoying it immensely. There is a state a few hundred miles to the west calling you home.

Something goes bump in the night I am out the door with the dog, gun, flashlight to find out what it was. Almost 100 percent of the time it is me who calls in the cops to deal with the issue which is usually someone trying to break in or a druggie out of their mind. In all my years I have never been so afraid I have had to fire a warning shot like you did. I have had to draw my weapon once and when police arrived the person on the ground was arrested.

Not all of us are pussies. I should have sided with Weenis on the other forum in giving you crap because you crap on others here and act like you are better like a typical California person. Go back to your homeland and pop a shot on your property and see how that works for you there.

"I asked admin to delete". WAAAAAAHHHHHH they beat up on me and didn't pat me on the back like I expected and told me I am stupid so please delete so people will think I am cool again someday after they forget this thread. I think he should sticky this one forever or create a hall of shame forum for post like this or ones from Ranger whatever the hell number he is today.
