The House just passed H.R. 8 which would require universal background checks for all sales including private party sales. I doubt it will get by the Senate, but who knows. There are bound to be a few traitors.

Look at the long game, there is no way to enforce this except in states that already have firearm registration.
Right now there is no way for them to know who was in possession of what, and when it was sold private party.

I agree. I'm not as concerned about it being used for gun confiscation at this time. I'm just worried about how it will change private party sales in the meantime which will slowly put more and more firearms in "the registry". That's if people comply.

There is no wiggle room. As someone stated earlier, this is the first step to confiscation. The only out is the Commerce Clause in the Constitution. Congress can only regulate Interstate Commerce. It would be hard to justify them controlling a gift or even sales between friends in the same town.

They'd have better luck enforcing the collection of sales tax at garage sales. This law, which will be held up in court if it ever passes congress, is completely unenforceable, not to mention that it will do absolutely nothing to prevent any kind of crime.
