It's a great tool, but I'm pretty sure it won't be that hard to take out once it's seen. But, up until that point, it's going to be very formidable.

It's "vitals" are a fraction of the size of a human's. It's "legs" are armored as well as the very narrow and compact body. Very likely to be bullet proof up to and including .338 Lapua Mag ballistics. They mention in the article this robot will be used for mine clearing so it is probably able to withstand the blast forces and still operate correctly. They also mentioned it being able to climb stairs with sensors turned off, so it is essentially blind while doing so.

I don’t believe you understand what “mine clearing” entails. 99% of “mine clearing” is detection. Any device this small and limber would not be “able to withstand the blast forces” of an explosion nor would it be resistant to a .338 Lupua.

damage to an apendage would render if semi functional can't believe the legs could take a hit from a few rounds and not be damaged.

You fail to understand the physics involved.
A small light robot is more able to withstand the blast because instead of absorbing the majority if the energy, it will only absorb a small percentage as it is blown through the air. Therefore it will sustain less damage. Same applies to terminal ballistics. If the armor is sufficient, then the robot will get knocked down, sustaining no or little damage. It will then upright itself and continue it's mission.
It is much easier to design a light object to be able to survive a mine blast than it is to design a large vehicle to do the same.
Same principle as used in martial arts, instead of absorbing your opponents energy/force like a boxer exchanging blows, you divert their energy/force.

Depends upon the angle of the hit and the shape of the leg. A square edged leg hit square would absorb more energy (sustain more damage) than a curved or slanted surface hit at an angle; in which case the bullet would simply deflect. Bullets due more damage in softer tissue because it penetrates the skin and the tissue then absorbs the energy.

If it gets to close to you you won't need to use a gun, I remember the days when Kempoprofessor was taking mechs out on a daily, boy have times changed
