exactly.

I traded into a chest freezer awhile back, and I keep it full, stocking when there are sales.

my kids thought I was nuts to keep a freezer full of meat...until now.

I buy beef on the hoof and butcher it myself.
You can't get better beef at a better price.

I wouldn't mind doing that in the future, but right now it's not feasible for me. The most I've bought was a 1/4 cow that was already processed. What is that about two freezer chests worth for you?

Problem is, the more you do, the more infrastructure is needed.

Butcher tables, hanging trees, knives, electric meat grinder, generator.... on, and on, and on, it goes!!!

Sometimes I am in awe at how quick a self sufficient living,...can become a full time job!!!

It will fill up a large chest freezer and more depending on the size of your freezer.
My brother has a walk in freezer we use for butchering.
I always have it frozen before I bring it home and put it in the chest freezer.
Depending on how it is cut , you can get 30 pounds or more of processed meat into one cubic ft of freezer space.

We always had a goat or two growing up.
My sister has a goat farm now.
I never cared for goat milk or goat meat.
As a matter of fact I don't drink milk of any kind.

My girlfriend is Hispanic. There pretty much isn't any part of a farm raised animal she doesn't try to feed me. I'm already well padded, so it's unlikely I'll starve to death.

I have 3 large dogs that get a large portion of their intake from food she makes. It's typically gizzards, hearts, liver, etc., with rice and frozen vegetables. The meat stuff is what most peeps won't eat. But, it is actually not bad tasting.

It might come down to all of us sharing the dogs food... LOL

Some of the weird stuff like beef cheek and cow tongue are the best! I've been slowly introducing my kids to more and more organ meats. They're doing pretty good with it.

When I was a kid we didn't waste much.
My Mother would make pickled heart and pickled tongue that was really good.
My Dad would scrape the head and make head cheese.
Many times we would go to school with head cheese sandwiches for lunch.
Other kids would trade each other things they brought for lunch and I could never figure out why nobody would trade me anything for my head cheese sandwich.
I thought it was good.

I wish I didn't like goat milk,... from the way it effects my fat ratio, it obviously doesn't like me! :violin:

I have all kinds of ground meat,... goat, beef, lamb, pork, elk. I pass on most for a GOAT BURGER on the Bar-B ,... EVERY TIME!!! In fact, it is only when I run out of ground goat, that I eat the others. 8-)

If you ever have a chance to acquire some freshly butchered goat liver,.... jump on it!!! I serve it medium rare, with sauteed onion and bacon, on top of mashed potato's!!

Makes me salivate just writing this!!!

Tongue or cheek tacos are a regular staple in my house.

Same here, except for the sister having a goat farm. I can eat the meat but prefer cow. 😁

Yup, rabbits are quite prolific, good tasting, easy to butcher, and have the highest meat to bone ration of any edible animal, I know of.

Went to Fry's today, checked out the meat counter. Lots of inventory. However, sign said limit 2 packages of anything, and the prices were quite high. $5.49 for ground beef.

I am a peaceable man, and have no wish to see war or revolution. However, if the time ever comes when there is no bacon, then I make no guarantees.
