Here let me make it easier on everyone. I didn't make it clear on what I ment. Do you carry a pretty gun ( pearl grips, chrome slide, stainless etc)? Or do you carry Black, flat green, blue, or sand colored etc?

Back before nitride finishes, when stainless steel was the most practical corrosion-resistant solution to keeping body sweat from turning your piece into an orange flakey brick of rust,...I used to pack only shiny stainless 1911s. I liked how the shiny steel highlighted the cavernous bore;...all the better to hopefully impress someone into submission if I ever had to point it at them.

But I have seen body sweat stain "stainless" guns if attention to cleaning them was not taken. I have never seen a nitride finish rust, however. And add to the tactical advantage of matteness,...I have comepletely switched. Not exclusively for that reason,...I was also transitioning from being a Jeff Cooper 1911 fanatic over to embracing the polymer dark side of Glockness. I still enjoy and prefer a nicely customized and enhanced 1911,...but for daily knocking around, all my EDCs are Glock now.

Nice. I too have 1911's in my inventory. My father had given me a 1911 2 tone stainless. I had it refinished in FDE. The others are all black.

There is a theory that it makes sense to carry a gun in a bright attention getting color. If you are accused of brandishing or something similar and they claim a black or silver gun it blows their claim apart. I've considered it but haven't done it.

I have a two tone pistol, but mostly run the flat black. My argument is that it probably draws less attention. Especially when I’m coming home from swing shifts

If you conceal properly, what difference does it make? If you have to pull it, who cares?

Even though I have a ccw I carry open 85% of the time.

EDC Glock. On special occasions it’s either a 3” 625 or a ported 657mg because flash. Way back in the day when there was such a thing, I used my Raging Bull 8-3/8 for CCW class

It also nails you to the wall if someone tells the police it was an aquamarine color and you've got the only one in Arizona. Black gun? Everyone has those, won't narrow it down to you.

Either for me.
Carried a nickled full sized 45 for many years.
Then a parked plain blued officers 45.
Now a USPc 9, Glock 19 or XDs9

Weight and capacity to me now is more important than the finish.

I carry as close to factory as possible, this article does a good job explaining why:
