There is a fire in the Catalinas that started yesterday,
It started in Molina Basin in an area frequently used to target practice.
They are saying it was started by someone shooting.
They have no actual proof but have decided a shooter caused a spark from a bullet hitting a rock or something.
I am sure they will use this to close target shooting in the area now.

I was on the mountain yesterday above Molino, we had heard someone doing some target practice with a few mag-dumps in between prior to the fire.
It is possible, that that is what started it, but who knows.

This will threaten the access to the spot, even though I never have used it.

I had to shake my head at one of the reporters that indicated that was the current theory. They had the camera person pan down and said there were "bullet fragments" all around as they show shotgun shell cases. I wish they would actually know what they are reporting on!!!

They said they had a license plate number of the person they think might have started it.
I never use that particular area either for shooting but do use other parts of the Catalinas and Rincons.

Ya, Trump Did It.
Horrible Trump, starter of forest fires. Think of all the bunnies and bambi's that will die and it's all Trumps fault.

Lol.

The sad part is, if the AZ Repugnant ran a story like that, people would believe it.

While were talking about shooting spots in the Catalina area... has anyone seen that Rail-X is now posted? I haven't gone up there but was told by someone a couple days ago that no shooting signs are now up ...

If you are talking about the Rail-X in the Tortolita Mts. It is State trust land and has been closed to shooting for years.
Lots of people have been shooting there but not legally.
It's legal to hunt there but not target practice.

Thanks for clarifying that for me... I won't waste my time trying to find that spot...
I just moved up here from SV and had to leave my 300yd private range behind.
Although I joined the PPC, that doesn't help me much with my rifle practice... s
o I am trying to find a spot I can set up 200-300 yd targets.
sorry for the OT post, any additional update on the Catalina fire status?
fake news or not, I guess we've already taken it on the chin, in many minds

That's always bothered me. Why allow one and not the other? The act is the same, you're still shooting a gun...in fact, target practice is safer because you have a controlled environment and a known target...no hunter is going to accidentally get shot while being mistaken for a deer during target practice.

Could be because lots of shooters are slobs and leave their garbage behind when they are done.
Hunters on the other hand take out what they shoot. Most of the time anyway.

My theory is that the ones making the rules are just anti gun and really don't want either one , but can't justify stopping the hunters.
