Feds: Forced-reset triggers are machine guns under US law
By MICHAEL BALSAMO
Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal officials are notifying gun dealers that some forced-reset triggers, which allow guns to fire rapidly with a single continuous pull of the trigger, are considered machine guns under federal law and subject to strict regulation.

The notification was being made Thursday in an open letter from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to federally licensed firearms dealers. It spells out how investigators have determined the triggers to be “conversion devices,” making the weapons machine guns.

The Biden administration has been working to strengthen gun regulation, step up its fight against gun violence and tackle rising violent crime rates in the country. The Justice Department has already announced it is taking a hardline approach to gun dealers who break federal law and has established several strike forces in cities to help stop firearms trafficking.

In the new letter, the agency said its examination of the devices in question determined that they “allow a firearm to automatically expel more than one shot with a single, continuous pull of the trigger.”

The ATF says using the triggers, some of which sell online for around $400, mean that the weapons are being turned into machine guns under federal law, and as a result would be subject to strict regulation for possession, transportation or transferring the devices.

The determination applies only to forced-reset triggers that allow guns to fire more than one shot with a single trigger-pull and not others on the market that require the trigger to be released before another shot can be fired.

I'm sure Rear Breed will be continuing to fight this. I'll be I get an email this week from them stay they have stock.

I love it, no enforcement on Bump stocks, senators oppose rules on braces, senators oppose rules on solvent traps, lawsuit on FRTs, and a republican landslide coming in the midterm. Maybe BATFE gets cut down to BAT.

this makes perfect sense (to this Administration)...banning a $400 trigger pack in a $750+ rifle is going to stop gun violence and rising crime.

The BATFE is a ROGUE agency!!!!!

This. They’re not able to enact legislation with the force of law, but they’ve been kicking innocent peoples’ teeth in and burning their wives and children to death for decades without a damn thing being done about it regardless. I hope to see the dismantling of the ATF in my lifetime. Hell, maybe even some of them tried and sentenced for their crimes. A man can dream…

Schools are still putting out engineers. It won't take long for someone to design another trigger, device, or whatever to have the same effect.

Guy already designed a forced reset drop in made on a 3D printer. Because of threat he took down the G-Code for it. He's one guy, so he didn't want to fight the ATF. Won't be long and it will be a Metal infused 3D printed version or a 3D printed version with insert tiny bearing/bushing here.

Yep, civilian engineers stay civilian because they can get paid way more money for being smart.

Why’s everyone going to DEFCON 1? Arizona is 2nd Amendment sanctuary state and law enforcement here won’t enforce it.

this is a FED thing, state and local LEO's won't have a primary role.

personally, I don't want to go head to head with the ATF without strong legal representation.

+1
Or any Federal alphabet agency.
Been there done that.. better have very deep pockets

The attack on braces is ongoing.
There is nothing handier than a short braced pistol like the CZ Evo3 S2 micro. Very convenient in the truck for anti-road rage and such.
The trigger attack was predictable, as was the brace attack. Anything that we like, they hate.
Waiting for hunting rifles to be deemed "sniper rifles" or "assault sniper rifles" or some other moronic term.
Repeal the NFA, and the 1968 GCA, and we will have a more normal situation.

And that doesn’t come cheap.

I can accurately fire 6-8 rounds a second with the "ALG" triggers on my
AR's, so I don't see the need for a (high dollar) "reset trigger", and if I
ever need a full auto, I can make that happen in about 15 minutes with
some well placed filing.....

Hmm, I've heard that tale a thousand times, and I've never seen anyone be able to accomplish it. If you believe that old wive's tale, well, you've been misled.

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day
