ID scanning to be required for adult signatures starting in June 2022

On June 28, 2022, FedEx Express and FedEx Ground will enable ID scanning functionality for deliveries in the U.S. which require an adult signature. Our ID scanning technology will electronically capture the recipient’s name and automate age verification. This new process eliminates the need for manual data entry of recipient information and improves the accuracy of recipient information.
When a recipient’s ID is scanned, our scanning technology will:
Capture the recipient’s name associated with the ID and auto-populate the first initial and last name.
Confirm the recipient is 21 years or older.
Our software does not record any other personal data (e.g., driver's license number, phone number(s), birthdate, home address, etc.). However, capturing the recipient’s first initial and last name is part of the existing proof of delivery process for all signature deliveries and will be retained only as long as necessary.

Well, their employees shouldn’t be able to steal anything off the truck while out for delivery.
Also will (hopefully) prevent misdelivered packages. Can’t just drop it anywhere and claim it was delivered to the proper address.
Of course most of this would be resolved if they would just collect the GPS location data of the driver when they deliver/scan when at your door.

Last few ammo deliveries from Fed Ex the boxes have all been wrapped in tape that reads “Tamper Evidence” tamper proof some kind of sh!t. Started getting notices on email I would have to sign for package. Delivery the other day he rang the bell handed the wife the box of ammo and away he went.
Hope it stays that way!

If you decline to have your ID scanned at delivery, your age will be verified by the driver by manually entering your date of birth. The driver will also manually enter your first initial and last name.

This will be good for merchants who constantly get scammed about items that are incorrectly delivered.

I can't remember what gun shop I was at, but they swiped my DL and all in the info populated into the 4473...it was really nice to have.

I think FedEx is trying to solve the issue of drivers being too lazy to get a signature, and it's causing issues with missing/stolen packages, etc.

Delivery drivers also steal packages, after they deliver them and take a picture.

Our guy just drops the ammo at the front door. He's gotten a bit tired of my ordering heavy deliveries lately but he never complains, especially with the walk they need to make to get to the front door.
