Even a pellet gun can be lethal

I have three PCP rifles that would have no problem killing at 100 yards.
Heck, there are .50 caliber ones out there used to take big game.

I can't see a "standard" pellet gun being lethal outside of some VERY specific circumstances (like pressed up against the top of the back of the neck under the skull)? I get that they can do damage - I'm just really curious as to how someone killed a person with one unless it was VERY intentional.

I wonder if it was a high end / big bore air rifle (which most folks would not call a "pellet gun")? Something like one of these: https://www.airforceairguns.com/product-p/u20454.htm ?????

I read the article and watched the embedded video. My 'guess' is this. Some scrote-bag youths brought along a pellet gun to drive-by and shoot homeless, bums, vagrants, whatever...to get their jollies. They probably thought it would just sting, and watch the victim/s suffer a bit. Perhaps an errant pellet instead entered the gent's eye-socket, or perforated a lung between the ribs, or an abdominal organ.

It's doubtful anyone would've heard a 'shot', in the sense of gunfire. Plus, the victim was known to have had mental issues. Would he have known he was shot)? Would anyone who knew of him paid him any attention if he complained, or outright asked for help? Brain trauma, Internal bleeding and/or oxygen starvation....
