Looking for a Backpack to carry a full size pistol 1911 or similar. Something with velcro backing inside for strapping extra mags. Not looking to spend more than $150. Anyone have one they like or recommend

I daily a 5.11 Rush 24 hour bag. I like it a lot.

Makes my glock 19x and extra mags disappear in the front pouch.

I have one of those too. It is a great bag. I bought it off a member on the old forum at least 3-4 years ago. It has been washed numerous times, and has held up great. I use it as a work bag as well, typically carrying 3 laptops (two light ultrabooks and a heavy desktop replacement laptop,) the power bricks, a small tool kit, and a variety of other things (network testers, cables, etc.) Quite heavy "loadout" and it has not had any issues.

I have had good luck with Maxpedition bags. Some of them definitely look less tactic-cool than others and picking a plain color like black or grey helps as well. But, if you catch them on sale, they make a solid bag.

Hey OP,

Most of my packs are much larger than one gun and mags. A fanny pack will carry a handgun.

Is there a reason you're not using a holster? Are you wanting concealed carry?
Are you prepping and just want the straps or velcro made for a gun to fit?

I want to conceal carry. I cant carry on my person at work and have a locker, dont like to leave my weapon in the vehicle. So from parking lot to locker and back. My old Eberlestock backpack has seen better days and just wanted to replace it with a bag that's made to carry a sidearm

Same for me for also using it as a work bag as well. Just one laptop though. ;)

I'm dense Hak,

Can you describe a bag that's made to carry a sidearm?
Does it have anything like an internal holster? or straps? or velcro?

After searching on "pack for sidearm"
I checked the eberleestock, pelican, and voodoo.
They all have normal pouches; nothing specifically for a handgun.

???
I need a new backpack myself so I am fascinated by the responses you get. I'm still wondering if there is such a thing as a pack made for a sidearm.
I would love something with an outside padded pocket that is easily and quickly accessible.

Personally, I would repurpose some sort of Camelback that has an internal/external reservoir pocket that accessible by either a zippered or Velcro closure.
Would blend in quite well, and no one around you would be wise to what it’s actual purpose is.

The 5.11 Rush bags should fit your need. They look tactical, but it should fit your need. I don't know if the newer models have this feature, but the older models have a velro-secured hidden pocket that is perfect for carrying a handgun.

I carry the Lima messenger bag from 5.11 daily...it's a great bag.

Also check out Vertx or Arctyrx. Vertx makes a great line of bags. I also have a Arctyrx Blade 20 that I use for travel. It is low profile, doesn't scream "TACTICAL!", and has a hidden pocket under the lumbar support pad that I keep my P365 in. It also has a semi-hidden area that keeps a rigid backing so the pack keeps it's shape, but it also fits a IIIA soft panel perfectly.

I have the 5.11 Rush 10, it's a sling type pack, for my EDC. Not sure it's made anymore, but you can find them on ebay. It has a special CC pouch that has a velcro top for easy access. It has pockets in the front pouch that hold fullsize mags perfect, I carry 3 extra... It will also fit a 14" laptop in the main pouch just fine too.

I'll like that 5.11 rush bag. I will be purchasing one for sure,

thanks everyone for your input

Rush is just a line of bags, over a dozen different ones in it...

I like using just a sling backpack for work. Maxpedition one or clones work fine.

I have a cheap clone of this bag: https://www.maxpedition.com/collections/sling-packs/products/kodiak-gearslinger?variant=16065100611655

I’ll second the Maxpedition recommendation. I can’t remember model names but I have one of their smaller “sling” packs as well as a medium sized day pack. I use the sling at times for EDC and the backpack as a gym bag and they’re both well put together.
