I remember when this movie came out. It was supposed to be the best biker movie ever made and I have heard about it ever since.
I have seen bits and parts of it over the years but never watched the whole movie.
Well the other night it was on TV so I thought I would watch it. it was uncut and had no commercials.
I am sure when it came out (1969) it did cause some controversy because of all the drugs use , the long hair and those horrible motorcycles.
I will have to say after all the hype I have heard for the last 50 years it was a big disappointment.
My opinion is that It was not that good of a movie.
So I am curious does anyone here think it was that good of a movie ?

at the time it was the shitz for the anti establishment movie, i saw it on r&r, didnt get it as i was in the government service at the time, but saw it again years later, not bad, just hollywood entertainment.

It was a great anti-government movie during Vietnam. It showed me that there was something in the world besides the farm country (NE Ohio) that I was living in. I was able to get out of there 3 years later and haven't been back.

I have probably seen about every biker movie made in that time frame and then some. I too found easy rider a fair bit boring. Its significance was in its social commentary and unfortunately .. often social commentary is boring.

When I sit down to a Biker movie I prefer bad acting, Chains, knives, more motorcycles and lots of breasts ... but call me crazy.

Over rated movie I agree. Just not that interesting. An obscure biker movie most people have never heard of is called Beyond The Law with Charlie Sheen (yea I know) and Michael Madsen. Found it in the dollar bin at Zia and was really surprised how good it was. It was set in Arizona too.

and Jack Nicholson's performance has been lauded yet .. OMGoodness I thought he was awful.

anyway .. If you want pure 70's cheese with some social awareness but more importantly .. machine guns mounted to motorcycles and running roughshod in the Southeast ..

In 1969 it was the rage. Freedom and sticking it to the man , doing your own thing without worrying about consequences.
If it was made and put out today it would flop in the first theater.

I remember the Paul Bunyan statue they drive past in one of the opening scenes.
It still stands on the corner of Stone and Glenn in Tucson.

I did quite a bit of work on the house where they filmed a few scenes at in Tucson.
It is privately owned but the Hells Angels still like to cruise around it and for some reason it means something to them.
They would cruise by quite often when I was working on it.
The owner of the house said she never felt safer because of them watching over the place.

Surprisingly not a bad movie... I had a buddy that worked on the film crew...

You guys are really recommending a movie with charlie sheen in it?!
Alright .. now you have my curiosity up so I will have to check it out. I like Madsen but Sheen.

It is a good movie, had it in my collection for many years. Believe it is based on a real person.

I remember every guy in town after the movie came out that was riding a bike had the red, white, and blue helmet.

Alright boys .. I am going to spend 3 bucks to see a Chalie Sheen movie this weekend. I never thought I would say that! :)

IMO Easy Rider was a vastly over rated movie,
but it is not uncommon for me to not like a popular movie.

I only spent a dollar on it, so I felt it was worth it. Don't blame me if you don't like it and you spent a whole three dollars.

LOL .. OMgoodness .. that is 3 targets! Arguably, according to some here .. a princely sum!

I dont hold anyone responsible while I still hold the debit card. But .. I havent seen it so what the hey. I think action movies from the 70's 80's and 90's are far better than most of the newer ones. Real stunts performed by stuntmen, usually more action and less talking about feelings, special effects done by special effects people and none of that stupid CGI that makes a car explosion look like something from a looney tunes cartoon.

The soundtrack was ahead of its' time. Up to this point movies had overblown scores done by an orchestra. Easyrider captured the moments with contemporary music and sold the soundtrack.
