saw a you tube video where a guy put a 22 pellet gun pellet in his 22 rifle and pushed a nail gun 22 blank in behind it. he got very fast ft. per second and accuracy at 25 yards. i cant understand why the pellet didnt strip out and the nail gun cartridge didnt hurt the gun as it is so powerful. anybody ever see anyone do this? is it dangerous? seems to me it would be but what do i know?

There are various power loads available for nail guns. Maybe he used a lower level blank. As for the pellet, if it’s reasonably close to the correct diameter there is no reason it would strip out.

Used to do this as a kid with a .22 bolt gun. I think there is a lot of meet in a .22 bolt gun receiver and the nail gun blanks come out in one piece afterwards so highly unlikely it would hurt the gun. But defiantly doing something that you shouldn't and the potential for something going wrong is greatly increased when you do that.

TAOFLEDERMAUS on YouTube does a lot of experiments with homemade projectiles, mostly in 12 gauge but he did try this.

Most modern pellets are designed to withstand the air charge blast of pre-charged pneumatic guns.
Some of these guys easily generate over 1,000fps. IOW, not your childhood Daisy, nor Benjamin pump-gun. I think its' a pretty neat idea.

Lowest common denominator in this is the pellet skirt.
If the load is to high or the pellet too frail the skirt can strip off , obstruct the barrel and leave you a big ole ring.
Get big solid pellets and stick to the lower level charge loads and you should be fine,,,,,but then again WHY?
