This came up in another thread where peeps would want to see a CCW/CWP for FTF guns sales. Would you be SOL on buying because you don't have one?

I've had a CPL/CCW for six years- first in MI, now here. I wouldn't disqualify a face-to-face buyer for not having one.

Agreed!

I have had a Az. CPW since 2002, and my current one expires in 2021. I only show it to ease the nerves of a inexperienced seller, and, never ask for anything in return. But, have always had one flashed back at me, if they had one.

More of a, fellow patriot courtesy, than anything else.

Just to be technically correct it is called a CWP in Arizona.
and yes i have one.

Interesting, indeed! You are correct.

I wonder how the use of CCW got started.

Now I know, I have used it incorrectly for sixteen years!

:o

To answer the OP's question, no it would not be a make or brake deal for me. I buy what I want from who I want. If he spoke in Farsi and had a towel rapped around his head I would not buy, at least not in the states. If he had gold chains and a gold tooth I would not buy from him. If he had a hot wife and 3 kids in a mini van I might buy from him with out all that yes.

I think it is in general use nationwide because in many states it is a permit to carry a concealed firearm, which they refer to as a weapon. However I think the Arizona CWP is a little different in that it allows any weapon to be carried concealed... although I'm a bit fuzzy on butterfly knives and nun-chucks, which I think are outlawed and thus may not be covered, but concealed lead pipes and machete's are...

as far as the other questions, buying or selling is... cash only and I will show my DL or CWP but no pics or receipts or other paperwork of any kind or else no deal- They are not required and I can't control what happens to those 'extras' in the future, so no way am I gonna release that stuff to a stranger.
Any gun I bought with 4473 paper, gets sold thru a FFL to document the end of the trail for my ownership.

I guess I didn't even really answer my own question...

I have done all the leg work to get mine, just waiting on the AZDPS(been over two months). I primarily got it for ease of 4473, and reciprocity.

I have one here as well as in Texas, Nevada, Utah, Florida and West Virginia, I also have photo id from each state as well since I have homes in all of them.

As I have posted, I have continuously had an Az, CWP (not CCW-thanks Harrier) since 2002.

I find it extremely convenient for bypassing the NICS system 'wait time', when buying from a FFL. Worth having one just for that, IMO.

FFL sellers luv it when I pull it out for a purchase!

First Az permits were in 94 and were good for 4 years. I had to shoot to re qualify in 1998. I already had credentials to carry in all 50 states in 94 through work at the trucking company which carried dangerous cargo but I still had to do the background check for firearms so I took the class, instructor knew who I was as he trained us at the trucking company and signed me off on the spot, still took the class though with a couple other guys from work and a friend of mine. I believe there were close to 100 people in the class I took and he was booked solid for months.

I believe the Az permit was a FU to the feds for the brady law. Only thing I bought between the Brady law passing and the AZ CWP passing was machine guns and from individuals. I have never had a Brady check.
