I have heard others here previously argue (convincingly) that maybe we really don't want ATF disbanded or otherwise destroyed,...because then their tasks would simply be assigned to more competent dickweeds, like the FBI, who could do even MORE damage.

So there's that.

Good point. The BATF was originally part of the Treasury Dept. -- tax collectors, Everybody understood that the 2A was a right that could not be criminalized, but arguably could be taxed. In recent years, that idea became outdated. "Right? Gun ownership is not a right! The 2A only applies to the National Guard!" Now the BATF is part of the Justice Dept. -- same as the FBI.
