One pathetic mumbler and one pathological liar - nothing new - same as 2020.
Please tell us 'misinformed boomers' of the lies that Trump told during the debate...we will be waiting
Hi Miker12-
I do not broadly label people or genres - so the whole 'misinformed boomers' label is your creation. I'm sure that there are many boomers that are well informed by news sources that adhere to journalistic standards and provide editorial retractions when they get things wrong. Unfortunately, journalistic standards are not important to political drag queens that consume their information from entertainment/propaganda sources and less than reputable news sources like social media, podcasts, Fox News, OAN, and Epoch Times. I do not disparage our boomers, rather I'm entertained by what the IT savvy and younger generations refer to as 'boomerspeak'. By ‘boomerspeak’ I am referring to online communication verbal stylings used by this distinct population genre — dot dot dots, repeated commas, mid-sentence caps, etc. A Gen Z'er can always tell that I am a Gen X person by my online communications.
I still feel that Biden and Trump are both substandard candidates and unworthy of a vote. That was abundantly clear to me when they both retained classified documents - much less than their combined gibberish during the debate. My experience as a former Army officer was that fellow soldiers and officers were doled out severe punishments for far less serious OPSEC infractions.
Back to your question, you did ask about what I thought Trump's lies were during the debate, my favorites include:
Biden claimed that Trump oversaw the “largest deficit of any president,” while Trump countered that “we now have the largest deficit” under Biden. The largest budget deficit was under Trump in fiscal year 2020 (https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/#us-deficit-by-year).
Trump said he was “the one that got the insulin down for the seniors,” when it was Biden that signed the “Affordable Insulin Now Act” of 2022 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/3700) capping costs for all seniors with Medicare drug coverage.
Trump falsely alleging that Biden will “wipe out” Social Security due to the influx of people at the border. Asylum seeking border crossers do not qualify for SSI as a "qualified alien" - they need to be granted asylum first (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/spotlights/spot-non-citizens.htm). More people were being granted asylum in the courts under Trump than Biden before the pandemic (https://trac.syr.edu/phptools/immigration/asylum/).
Trump claimed that when he left office, the U.S. was “energy independent” when we have never been. The U.S. continues to export more energy than it imports, same under both Trump and Biden. However, the US is now extracting more oil at home under Biden than Trump. Domestic oil production is maintaining a steady, almost inverse square linear increase since oil extraction lows during the pandemic in 2020 under Trump (https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=mcrfpus2&f=m).
Trump repeated his false claim that “everybody,” including all legal scholars, wanted to end Roe v. Wade’s constitutional right to abortion. A simple google search will show you plenty of legal scholars who thought that the destruction of Roe v Wade's decades of precedent was unwise to overturn.
Trump falsely claimed that “the only jobs” Biden “created are for illegal immigrants and bounced back jobs that bounced back from the COVID.” Total nonfarm employment is higher (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/PAYEMS)(https://www.bls.gov/regions/mid-atlantic/data/xg-tables/ro3fx9584.htm) than it was before the pandemic, as is the employment level of native-born workers.
Trump grossly inflated the number of immigrants who have entered the country during the Biden administration, putting the number at 18 million to 20 million. Do you see these numbers in CBP data (https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/cbp-enforcement-statistics)? Is that just an unsubstantiated guess from Trump’s reliance upon “people are saying” as some kind of proof? Also, there is no evidence that “many” of the border crossers are from prisons and mental institutions.
Trump claimed that “we had the safest border in history” in the “final months” of his presidency. But apprehensions of those trying to cross illegally in the last three full months of his presidency were about 50% higher than in the three months before he took office.
Trump falsely claimed that “some states” run by Democrats allow abortions “after birth.” That would be homicide/infanticide, and that’s illegal. Partial birth abortion has been banned since the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 (https://www.congress.gov/108/plaws/publ105/PLAW-108publ105.htm). An overwhelming amount of DEmocrats votes for this legislation (https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1081/vote_108_1_00402.htm).
Trump overstated how much food prices have risen due to inflation. Prices are up by about 20%, not “double or quadruple” as claimed in the debate. (https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-price-outlook/summary-findings/) (https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/food-inflation-in-the-united-states/#google_vignette)
Trump boasted his administration “had the best environmental numbers ever.” What the heck does that even mean? Trump reversed nearly 100 environmental rules limiting pollution. The only "best environmental numbers" I see came from reduced greenhouse gas emissions due to the impacts of the pandemic on travel and the economy during the few months of COVID lock down.
Trump said immigrants crossing the border illegally were living in “luxury hotels.” According to the hospitality industry (https://www.costar.com/article/1900939477/more-than-16000-nyc-hotel-rooms-used-to-accommodate-unhoused-migrants) "Most of the projects were midscale or economy properties and so the impact on inventory will likely be felt mostly at the lower price points the most".
Trump falsely claimed that there was “no terrorism, at all” in the U.S. during his administration. There were several terrorist acts carried out by foreign-born individuals when he was president https://www.state.gov/country-reports-on-terrorism-2/). This was just as stupid as Biden saying that there were not military casualties during his presidency.
While talking about international trade, Trump falsely claimed that the U.S. currently has “the largest deficit with China.” In 2023, the trade deficit in goods and services with China was the lowest it has been since 2009. (https://www.statista.com/statistics/939402/us-china-trade-deficit/) (https://www.bis.doc.gov/index.php/country-papers/2971-2021-statistical-analysis-of-u-s-trade-with-china/file)
Trump wrongly claimed that prior to the pandemic, he had created “the greatest economy in the history of our country.” That’s far from true using economists’ preferred measure — growth in gross domestic product (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/GDP) (https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/gdp). Economic times were good for the economy under Trump and Obama, remember?
As he has many times before, Trump wrongly claimed, “I gave you the largest tax cut in history.” That’s not true either as a percentage of gross domestic product or in inflation-adjusted dollars. https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/topics/policy-sub-issues/global-tax-revenues/revenue-statistics-united-states.pdf
Trump made the unsupported claim that the U.S. border with Mexico is “the most dangerous place in the world,” and suggested that it has opened the country to a new apex in violent crime. The data show a reduction in violent crime in the U.S. (https://www.statista.com/statistics/191219/reported-violent-crime-rate-in-the-usa-since-1990/) (https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/home) and there are far more dangerous places in the world than our border (which I routinely camp/hunt within 10 miles).
