I would agree with Wendy's being the most pricey, at least here in Flagstaff.

That's according to new data from Pricelisto.com, which gathered the data from in-store visits, phone interviews and uploaded information from business owners nationally.

This year, Wendy's overtook Burger King as the most expensive fast-food chain with an average item price of $6.63. In 2021, Burger King cost an average of $5.03."

The best deals I know of right now:

Carl's Jr.: Their 2.99 cheeseburger specials, and I think there's 3 to choose from.
Pete's Fish & Chips: Gag-a-maggot 'seafood', but decent, cheap burgers that surprised me
Rally's: The 2-for-5, and 2-for-7 selections. Burger, Fish, Chicken, Spicey Chicken

I "eat out" maybe once a month or so, usually a burger and fries. I don't feel the cost as much because I cook for myself most every day. When I go to meet friends for food, I tell them Golden Coral because A. I get a senior discount B. I can eat as much or little as I choose for the same price.

I don't remember the last time I went to a "fast food" place.I remember years ago I went to a "5 Guys" and was astonished at the price, it was more than my favorite "sit down" local places. Haven't been back. I think the last time I set foot in a McDs or Burger King was the 90s.

My wife and mother-in-law have been buying the "Factor" meals they deliver to you - and have been really happy with them. They tried all the others and didn't like them. I think the average per-meal cost is 10-12 bucks. The ones I have had were pretty good.

Japan has tons of "food service" robots so it is only a matter of time till it gets popular here. Also seen hotels use them to deliver room service. Maybe all those people wanting more money while stupidly trying to support a family of four working at McDs can get jobs repairing the robots that replaced them.

I don't cook. I utilize the workplace cafeteria (which is actually excellent, and cheap) and go out. I pretty much have a short list of places I eat where the prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. I don't mind paying for it as I have no desire to grocery shop, prep, cook, and clean up. I would rather spend that time doing other stuff. I am pretty picky about food quality and ingredients so by the time I shop, prep, cook, and clean it isn't that much more expensive to go out and eat something at a place I trust. I have a co-worker who can't wrap his head around this "waste of money" because he buys the absolute cheapest garbage food to prepare his meals so the cost is super low - but it cracks me up as he has tons of nutrition related health issues and refuses to accept it - his "solutions" are always silly dietary constraints which never do anything, while ignoring the fact he is eating stuff most people wouldn't feed their pets.

I am going to say for the worse - but I get why so many people do (price/budget and/or familiarity/ignorance.) While in recent years many of the chains have tried to improve the quality of the ingredients - it will never be "healthy." lol.

The Costco food court is a loss leader, not a profit center. The old CEO flat out threatened the life of the new CEO if he ever increased the price of a hotdog + drink combo. From a 2018 article, "If you raise [the price of] the effing hot dog, I will kill you," Sinegal said. "Figure it out."

They already have. McDonald's calls it the $1 $2 $3 menu. Been like that for years now.

I agree and don't like overpaying for food, but also tend to shy away from places and menu items that are too cheap. Think about it. If all food is going up, but they can still all you a "meal" for $5, I see 2 options: either smaller portion (won't fill you up), or less quality (if you saw the ingredients, I don't think it'd qualify as food).

The Costco rotisserie chickens are another loss leader only $4.99 and they're big. I get it once in awhile but I'm not a big chicken fan.

For burgers and fries I get the In-n-Out urge, double double and fries about $7.00 and it's all fresh, never frozen.
