couple questions, New to MG

was at the range talking with another shooter in respect to M16 thinking I'll be receiving soon, I have interest to do an SBR. He has an SBR so I asked how long he had to wait for that stamp and its cost, he stated in regard to paperwork I have done it Trumps that stamp so don' need to get it. Is this correct? Also Have started thinking silencer would I need to get stamp for that? I know these points of interest would tie to this firearm only.

When you start mess'in around with NFA toys, you will learn patience and develop elbow muscle memory from reaching for your wallet.

I wouldn't rely on anything anyone tells you- learn the law and find out what the ATF expects, then you can weigh range talk.

From what I've read, every part that my require a stamp individually, still requires ones when paired with other NFA items.

IE; SBR with a suppressor= 2 stamps.

A Machine gun can have a barrel shorter then 16 inches.

So in the case of a registered receiver M16 you can buy all the short barreled uppers you want for it.
If you are purchasing a DIAS(drop in auto sear) or Lighting link, the addition of the conversion device makes the entire gun a MG only when installed. So a 10.5 inch upper, DIAS and Title I lower is legal. Take the DIAS out, and you'd have an unregistered SBR. But take the upper off, then remove the DIAS? Legal, and just a collection of parts.

When you get into HK and some other stuff the ATF has allowed in the past "married" guns that are only one tax. An example is an RDTS MP5SD. It was a one stamp gun, and that had a permantly attached suppressor and a shorter then 16 inch barrel.

I think I understood what you conveyed, it made sense. Getting registered receiver so would be less opportunity to screw up in that regard. Would/ Will be way cool if don't have to get stamps regarding SBR/suppressor

Just to be clear you are going to have to pay stamps and wait on any stand alone Suppressors you buy, and uppers for your M16 are ok under 16inches as long as they are only used on the M16.
