Just received this email from a friend of mine:

I tried to order an AR-180 upper from Brownells.

Place order online.

Get email from Brownells that I have to call to verify the order.

I call them. They tell me look for a confirming email.

I don't get one.

I call them again.

They had my email address wrong, despite the fact they barrage me with sales emails daily.

Then, I have to take a pic of my DL and the credit card I placed the order with and send it to them.

I do that.

Then, I get an email saying that because my DL address (house) and the ship to address (office) are different, they want something confirming the ship to address with my name on it.

They have shipped things to this address before. I email them, "send me my damn order or cancel it."

Email from Brownells: "Order canceled."

Email from me: "You've lost a customer. Forever."

Never had issues like this in "e-commerce" before.

I was about to order a couple of parts from Brownells. I'm thinking maybe I will use midway or Optics Planet or some other parts source.

They are attempting to stop the most common type of Internet/Credit Card fraud....e.g. people stealing ID's and credit cards, then using that info to purchase exepensive online items. Most commonly, they items are shipped to a different address than what is provided on the CC/DL info. This is why they required provide proof of ID/CC.

What would make you more mad? Not being able to have an order shipped to your office, or some criminal using your ID/CC info to purchase expensive items without your knowledge?

That being said....Brownells service and product selection has been quickly falling off a cliff. They used to be my go-to source for gun parts and products, but not any longer. Their prices have gone up, their selection has dramatically decreased. If I'm looking for 10 gun parts, Brownells used to have 7-8 of them in stock at a decent price. These days, they might have 1 or 2 of the items, and they are more expenisive than anyone else online. And they have the worst search function I've ever seen...their search engine is nearly as poor as Bing's.

This has been my experience as well.
They’re no longer on the top of my list for parts orders.

My credit card address and shipping address have been different for ever.
I have never had a problem with any company.
Likewise my buddy. He had been a Brownells customer for 20 years; he was in their computer system; they have been shipping stuff to his office address all that time.

It's almost like they are intentionally trying to crash the company like Anheuser-Busch did.

This just in: Brownells is now offering a Dylan Mulvaney Signature Model AR-platform carbine chambered in 5.7x28. It's for operators who are High Speed Low Drag Queens.

Anytime your shipping address and billing address are different, it is a red flag and it should be. Differance is now the flag is getting bigger, as it should be.
