Heading up north on Friday around Forest Lakes to get away from the heat and do some shooting. I was up there over Memorial weekend and there were tons of people off of 300 rd. Heading a little further east away from the lakes so hoping to get away from the masses.
Count down to after Labor day when its too cold for camping for most people.

I envy you. It has been too long since I have been able to get out. The weather should be perfect. Have a great time.

As for the target shooting ban, just don't put up any targets! Problem solved. You're welcome.

No, seriously, make sure you are in a place where it is legal and safe to shoot.

Sitgreaves website does in fact state the entire forest is in stage II fire restriction. From their website...

ASNFs is in Stage II Fire Restrictions all activities prohibited on a Red Flag Day are already prohibited during Stage II Fire Restrictions. As a reminder:

Stage II fire restrictions prohibit the following:

Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove fire. Devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off are the exception. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three feet of the device.
Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.
Using an explosive.
Discharging a firearm, except while engaged in a lawful hunt pursuant to state, federal, or tribal laws and regulations or in an agency designated shooting range.

Thanks for the replies. Just called the ranger station, he confirmed there are not any shooting restrictions in place at this time. He said only if there are red flag conditions would they restrict shooting in Sitgreaves.

I'm glad you called the ranger station, have a good time.
The post above is copy and pasted right from the ASFS webpage, under fire restrictions.

I just finished up two separate trips into the high country over the last 2 weeks, and talked with Coconino Forest personnel about shooting before I went and during the second trip.... no shooting restrictions on the Coconino for sure as of last Thursday. My understanding was the kaibab, Coconino and Apache-Sitgreaves were all good to go as of then.

It's always best to double check, take a moment to talk to the Rangers.

I too was in the Coconino Forest 6/5- 6/7. Those high winds we experienced up north created Red Flag days which implement stage II fire restrictions.
Red Flag days actually are generated By the Natl Weather Service. Seems to be a communication breakdown between NOAA and USDA.

Sustained 20 mph winds or higher. Afternoon relative humidity less than 25%. 10 hour fuel moisture at 8% or less for one day. All make for Red Flag day.

Those restrictions are applicable again from 13June until further notice in Kaibab and Coconino. But hey, at least you can operate your chainsaw after 8pm.

Stage 2 fire restrictions to expand across Coconino, Kaibab national forests
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., June 9, 2020 — The Coconino and Kaibab national forests of northern Arizona will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions across both forests at 8 a.m., June 13, due to increasing fire danger and the need to prevent human-caused wildfires during potentially dangerous fire conditions.

So? How was your trip? Please give us an after-action report on the coolness, and the shooting if any.

Good, we were able to get out early before the winds picked up on Saturday. Started break in process for a new X bolt Hells Canyon in 7mm and got my sons M77 in 270 on paper. Got some trigger issues to remedy, previous owner installed a rifle basics unit, it is not consistent between trigger pulls.guessing a minor adjustment is all that is needed.
Saw some elk and a decent black bear Saturday evening on a sxs ride
