Whelp, never thought I would see it, but California just potentially got severely worse. All kinds of low-level scumbags will now be walking the streets because the state pissed away it's ability to enforce the law.

Actually, This is probably a GOOD thing. As long as it's implemented as it's laid out in the article, for non-violent misdemeanors.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that a ton of people won't be showing up for their court date.

That's my thoughts. The state of California will have tons of money wasted on enforcing arrest warrants and nailing offenders they have caught with extra prison time, thus failing to accomplish their goal of having less prison population. Either that, or they will just ignore runners.

Why will the police even arrest anyone, since it will be catch and release?

In Kali, it's been catch and release for a long time. This will just expedite the process.

Now let's think about all the new bureaucracy needed to quickly do the pre initial appearance investigation needed for each person to balance the crime and history of the accused to score for holding them or not.

I bet this will have a rolling snowball effect eventually resulting in rights being infringed for being held too long before initial appearance and other issues causing charges being dropped.

Well see.
