But...but...they saw it done in a Sylvester Stallone movie....so it must be possible. (Judge Dredd, 1995)

US appeals court upholds California bullet stamping law

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California requirement that new models of semi-automatic handguns stamp identifying information on bullet casings when fired is a "real-world solution" to help solve gun crimes, a divided U.S. appeals court said Friday in a decision that upheld the novel law.

The stamping requirement and two measures intended to make guns safer did not violate the 2nd Amendment because they left plenty of firearms for sale in California and were reasonable to further the state's goal of keeping people safe, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in a 2-1 decision.

Gun rights advocates had argued that manufacturers didn't have the technology to implement the stamping requirement, so the law was effectively a ban on the sale of new guns in the state.

I know that many have been entertained by the legislated stupidity in California.

But this is down right devious!

#1, yes , the technology doesn't exist, and #2, even if it did, shooters would merely have to police their brass, to circumvent such stupidness.

But, as I stated, passing a law that regulates a type of weapon that doesn't exist, and , there by creating a back door ban on all sales until a weapon that fits the legislation is created,........ definitely DEVIOUS!

:naughty:

Yes the tech does exist. But they will not go to the trouble to do it. They can throw endless amounts of money at it if they wanted to but won't.

California's goal is like all good socialist and Marxist governments is to ensure that the people only have the government to "protect" them aswell a to ensure the government maintains power. The elites who always end up enjoying the fruits of the government will always have guns and protection.

I'm confused, which bart was from Dredd? The stamping/tagging part or the part where activists judges screamed "Dont tell me the law I am the law"

Where is the "tech"?

I am very interested in who has come up with it.

It wouldn't be too difficult to come up with something that imprinted whatever you like (SN, some code, etc) on the base of the cartridge when fired, but all the shooter would have to do is somehow defeat it on the firearm (removal, grinding the "stamp" off, etc.). Something along the lines of a stamp that works in conjunction with the firing pin; stamps at the same time the FP strikes the primer. Useless idea, but it could be done.

I think the whole concept is a left liberal pie in the sky joke! I can't see any investor putting money into such an easily circumvented concept. I would really like to know who would/did, and their affiliates.

I like to, follow the money!

There is a company who makes this and they hold a patent IIRC, but as others have said, the whole thing is easily circumvented. The company that owns the technology is NanoMark, a division of ID Dynamics of Seattle, Washington. They are the only company from which this technology can be purchased.

Look all they need to do is imprint a IR number onto the case. Run lots, batches, per state per county etc. Its not hard to document anything u want. It cost money and takes time. They have both. If you were to be caught with unregistered ammo they could impose what ever they want. Here look at it this way. All stupid sh$t aside. Ask yourself if you want to do this to your people how would you do it.
